Interesting fact about the stock coil is that it is rated at 40k volts, not 36 like people have mentioned. Also, did anyone know that this coil pack fires two cylinders at once. And that the two cylinder spark paths are linked in series to carry the current flow. That means that one of the spark plugs in the series fires in reverse.
To me this means that ignitions wire resistance may be more important that usual.

Did some digging and found new and interesting (to me) information, straight from the horses mouth.

Straight from the horse's mouth. Believe or not, it is accurate.

I am also considering ignition upgrades and was recently given the gift of knowledge and thought I would share.

Sorry, but unless you are willing to expose your source, I will hold judgement on any of your claims.

OK, I understand .

One more bit of info. 80% of the spark energy goes to the first (power stroke) cylinder and 20% to the second (exhaust stroke) cylinder in the series.

Links to MSD's site for the main info on the Ignition box and for the PDF of the user guide for the box.

Its really only nessecary if you want to presicely tune your car. The stock ECU does a decent job of handling the ignition for you on a mildy modified car.

If you were running nitrous or a TC, i could see the box as being benficial.

It is MINI information, not proprietary, but where I learned it.

If you look at the plug at the back of the coil you will notice that there is only one power and two ground wires. How do you think the coil knows which cylinder to fire? How can it fire four circuits with only two grounds on the primary side? It doesn't (sort of) and it can't.

If you don't believe me (which is perfectly fine with me ) try searching for "waste ignition" systems.

Anyway, thought I would share this info as I have also become interested in this system.
