o2 Simulator for MINI?

So, I saw the posting in the vendor area. I see the words o2 and simulator and I think, this has got to be something that's probably illegal to circumvent pollution control equipment. The web site offers no real explanation - except perhaps to the fully initiated. I'm sure it's not illegal and that it's an absolutely wonderful product.

Having said that, though, can someone explain what this gizmo is and why someone might find it desirable? Thanks!

It's a bogus 2nd oxygen sensor that always claims everything is A-ok. It's purpose is to prevent a CEL when you remove the catalytic converters. Legal for "off road use" only.

It'll certainly do that! It'll also stop your Check Engine Light from coming on when/if the downstream O2 sensor fails. Although I haven't encountered a downstream O2 sensor failure on a MINI, I've seen about 10 times more downstream sensors fail than upstream sensors.

I have a header with aftermarket cat
It throws a P0420 code ( Cat below threshold.)
I am thinking about one of these so that I don't miss other codes.

I would be happier to not have to do this

MINI MANIA says they are working on something to keep the sensor in place while not allowing the system to throw the code
