What oil filter and where to buy?
El Kabong is at about 2300 miles. I'm going to the local BMW driving school next weekend, and I have to take it to a local BMW shop to get checked out before the school. The guy that owns the place said I should change the oil before I bring it by. I have a case of Amsoil (it's what my husband uses in his truck) but no oil filter. Is this a standard type of filter I can pick up at Auto Zone/Napa, etc? Is there a particular brand I should get/avoid?
Thanks for the help,
Annette

I prefer either the OEM MINI filter or a NAPA filter. The NAPA filter seems well made, with solid plastic ends rather than the foamed plastic ones the OEM uses, and o-ringed holes that make reinstalling the filter canister much less of a chore than with OEM. There appears to be lightly less pleats in the filtering media, but the media itself seems to be thicker and of high quality.
Early Purolator filters were made without the inside cage that prevents collapse of the filter element and as such were collapsing under pressure differentials. New ones address this problem.

I have my friendly AUTOZONE order it for me.
It takes 1 day and, I have found that the FRAM is a good unit, Not the odd paper end like the OEM. (Fram # CH9584)
I purchased 2 different ones from the internet and wasn't impressed (in fact I am not going to use the MAHLE made in Austria)
Last oil change next week at the dealer then I plan on using RED LINE oil.
For years I have run Red Line (ALL FLUIDS) in my motorcycles and 4 X 4 ... the products WORK !
Water Wetter is amazing !!!
