MOD recommendation

I'm going to the Dragon and thinking about a mod while I'm out there. Which should I go with pulley (15%) or air intake JCW type? If you could tell me why one over the other too please. I'm trying to increase MPG and get more zip too. What warranty impacts are there from the two?

Thanks,

By modding your car, you will reduce the mpg on your car, but not by much! If I were you, I would go with both if you can fork over the money. I would look into other intakes besides the JCW. You can save yourself some money and get another good alternative!

Pulley install require removal of airbox so doing both could save you install costs and time, CAI will imporve MPG as long as that wonderful new sound doesn't motivate you to consantly mash the throttle. I love my ALTA CAI and I know many are happy with the Webb HDI. As far as warranty void on directly affected parts, the JCW kit puts on a redution pulley and many of us have racked up a ton of miles with pulley and intakes changed without issue so as long as the work is done right you should have no worries about reliablity making warranty irrelevent.

An air intake is a low cost mod you can do yourself with only a few tools and little time; no brain surgery kind of mod.

A pulley will take more money, take special tools and the knowledge to do it right.

I’d get the pulley done at the Dragon by some one who has the experience to do it right and do the air intake yourself.

WhiteRoofRadio.com, past episodes, listen to the Randy Webb interviews he has done lots of testing and provide some very helpful and informative information. Its a balance between reliability, power and cost.

All three pulley you have listed have been reliable and well made. It all depends on who you want to go with. I like the helix as it has six bolts to hold it in then the others with their 4 bolts. As for intakes, A good alternative to the JCW which is a closed box intake would be the HDI that has been announced from Webb Motor Sports. Alta and Pilo aslo have a good intake. I personally have the Pilo intake and have opened up the cowl area that the Alta does and Love it! You can not go wrong with any of them. I advise you to do a search on the forums and see what others have to say about them all.

A word of advice on cold air intakes...

The JCW uses a paper element that costs $80-100. Keep that in mind.

There is now an aftermarket element that is washable foam for about the same price. Since I have a MCS/JCW, guess what my next mod will be?

Exactly.... I can not believe that a paper filter would cost 80-100 dollars. I forgot to post that in my response! But for anyone interested in the JCW, keep that in mind!

Between the Helix and the Webb Motors which is better? How loud is the Helix and Alta while normal driving or idle?

I got the JCW box because it was only $80 more to get it as a set with the JCW injectors. The injectors were used for the 19% and GIAC, of course. Gas mileage was unchanged, and those items work very well together.

That's the setup Helix prefers, but you are located right between Webb and Helix. Webb prefers the 15%.
