If you are using a top quality gas, additives usually aren't req'd.

I use mostly Speedway's 93 octane. It's my understanding that a carbon build-up will happen regardless of what fuel is used.

Carbon will build up to some extent in the combustion chamber, but shouldn't effect the injectors.

Carbon does build up no matter which gas you use but if you use 93 octanne as recommended you will "hopefully" have less trouble later down the road. The cleaner the fuel burns the better!

If you are to the problem stage there is a product called "seafoam" for cleaning injectors. I have not needed it for the 4 month old MCS but it is a superior product if you need an injector cleaner!

seafoam actually hurt performance on my friends' honda! I actually know a few people who lost power after using seafoam...haha. They had so much carbon buildup that it was giving them extra power due to the increased compression ratio!

Hopefully you won't get that far

Carbon build-up is an entirely different problem. For the injectors, if you are using a top tier fuel, you shouldn't have problems, If you suspect the injectors are fouling, Lucas makes the best cleaner, IMHO. Their octane booster is also one of the best, raising the octane # 3 full numbers, as well as a full dose of injector cleaner.

Well.... It's not made to increase performance...just clean the injectors...and by cleaning them you get, or should get, better performance. I have used it 2 times on my Tahoe, because I had it computer checked and my 5th cylinder injector was clogged...1 bottle worked so well I ran one more tank to further clean it & now have no problems and increased performance.

I used it to treat a problem, not prevent or try to diagnose...If your not having injector issues and/or have low mileage I would not use it.

Hmmm. Sounds like it is time to re-visit www.toptiergas.com. Gas that conforms to the TopTier detergent spec, while it may not be free of intake deposits, will have the absolute lowest level of intake deposits. In a former lifetime, I had a 1986 VW GTI that had intake deposits after only 10,000 miles. After a de-carbonization procedure, I have been running Chevron gas in all the cars I own. After a cummulative mileage that is in excess of 700,000 miles, I have never had a problem with intake deposits. If none of the TopTier suppliers do business in your area, then a detergent additive like Chevron Techron may be in order; but if a TopTier supplier is in your area, you would be better served to just switch suppliers.

Exactly...and Lucas is an excellent cleaner as well....I just would not use any of them unless you know for sure you have a problem injector.

I haven't noticed anything strange. I was just wondering if I should try something to prevent some sort of build up.

At my last scheduled maintenance the dealer wanted to do a pressure cleaning of my injectors. When he got to the part were they would have to take off my supercharger to do it I said no. After that though, they got me to wondering.

I would read the entire post below & the link provided within it. I think you would be better off letting the dealer service it, or a professional mechanic.

I was thinking about doing that, but premium fuel is good enough.

I use a bottle of Chevron Techron at every oil change on all my cars. The MINI hasn't had an oil change yet, but it's almost there. A good friend of mine is the service manager for a Porsche dealer & he tells me Techron is the only thing that they've used that actually works. Probably not needed especially on our new cars, but heck it won't hurt it either.

Are you using the bottle of Techron because Chevron gas is not available in your neck of the woods? If Chevron gas is available, the additional bottle is just a "peace of mind" factor; it isn't going to really make a difference - the Techron in the gas (if you fill with Chevron Supreme every time) is what makes the difference.

I'm curious as to why you would use fuel stabilizer in you car. I put it in my bikes for storage over the winter cannot think of why you would use it in a car unless it was in storage.

If you can measure

injector pulse duration, it should a) go down for identical driving conditions and b) all the injectors should show about the same pulse timing (less variation between them) if in fact you are making a difference.

No Chevron gas in my neck of the woods. I guess it really is just a preventative measure on my part. Best keep things clean rather than try to clean them up after the fact. And yes It gives me peace of mind. I feel like I'm being good to my cars.
