Craptastic heretic.....maybe

JCW owners, is anyone running a non-JCW strut tower brace/or plate on their craptastic cars? In interest of preventing the dreaded mushroom effect, I'm researching which brace to get. The pics I've found on the web seem to show the JCW version to be decidedly less than beefy around the strut towers themselves. M7 brace looks good, but I'm undecided...HELP? If I go non-JCW will I be excommunicated from the craptastic congregation?

No, but you WILL be flogged severely

Your reasoning sounds way to logical and way to mechanical-like to avoid a flogging.

The only issue is I thought there was a fitment issue where some other braces won't fit over the JCW air box. I can't recall off the top of my head which ones fit though

I like my JCW one... it was cheap

Do you want a more reasonably priced one? or dont like the look?

(and its about the same size as the m7 one)

Check out the JCM version. More basic and likely more functional. Looks to be cheaper, too. If you went this route, I think we would allow you to keep your Team Craptastic membership.

Actually, it's not really the bar itself I question at all. If you look at the mounting plate that "surrounds" the strut tower the surround seems too thin. Rigidity increase is nice but I'm really looking to protect the strut tower metal. I am well aware that if I go non-jcw I'll lose at least 3-5 horsepiwer.

BMP bar from outmotoring is the nicest one and most impressive that I've seen.

Right. I'm assuming the JCM bar has beefier mounts on the strut towers, as it was designed for competition use.

This one is the "Motor sport version"

This one is what everyone has (unless you have the Motorsport one )

If you are concerned about mushrooming, the JCM version does not appear to conform to the shape of the shock tower.

I Have A Benfer Carbon Fiber Bar. With Shims It Clears The Jcw Airbox And Allows The Use Of The Stock Ecu Cover. I Touches The Hood Liner But No Problems. Just Wish It Had Full Tower Coverage Like The M7 Plates.

Based on all the pics I was able to find AND the fitment over the top of the jcw air filter box, I think my best bet may be the m7 strut tower reinforcement plates in anodized black. Let the flogging begin

Thats OK, we all slip once in a while. BUT, you know your going to have to make up for it by buying AT LEAST two pieces of CF in the near future

What makes this even worse is that this is the very part that started the whole "JCW is Crap Thread".

A bunch of the JCWers around here have been allowing anyone into their little clique - buy a JCW hat - join the team.

If you all don't mind me saying so, this complete lack of structure is ruining your group and diluting the membership.

I propose the following ranks:

(1) Constipated - JCW clothes.

(2) Turtle Head - JCW interior or exterior trim pieces, including the infamous lighted door sills.

(3) Hershey Squirt - JCW Intake and Injectors.

(4) Baby Ruth - JCW Brakes or Suspension.

(5) Brown Trout - Combination of any of the above three.

(6) Full Fecal Fanboy - Cylinder head + supercharger.

(7) Grand "Poo" Bah - Items 1 through 6 plus strut brace and carbon fiber framed certificate hung on wall (picture required).

I'm therefore officially a Hershey Squirt. As such I am ordering the first Turtle Head who reads this to fetch me a beer.

Why? Because I outrank you.

Yeah, or just really bad gas . . .

Let's see. 1 + 3 + 6 = 10.

I'm a freakin' 10!

What a craptastic way to start the day!

Now, where's that Shiner Bock?

(1) Constipated - JCW clothes. Check

(2) Turtle Head - JCW interior or exterior trim pieces, including the infamous lighted door sills. Check - but the door sills are the non-illuminated ones

(3) Hershey Squirt - JCW Intake and Injectors. Check and Check

(4) Baby Ruth - JCW Brakes or Suspension. Check on the brakes - only the sport suspension

(5) Brown Trout - Combination of any of the above three. Um, check

(6) Full Fecal Fanboy - Cylinder head + supercharger. Check and Check

(7) Grand "Poo" Bah - Items 1 through 6 plus strut brace and carbon fiber framed certificate hung on wall (picture required). Strut brace coming and JCW certificate in office hanging..do they make a carbon fiber frame?? How did I miss that?!

Almost-----FFF for now!
