Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
Has anyone installed a chip in their coop yet? If so, are you happy with it? The one I saw on a British site (can't remember the name) boosted 27 ponies!!! That's phenomenal.
You probably saw "Superchips" website. The unofficial word that has trickled down is that the Superchip will be available stateside for Cooper and S in the near future.
I heard that they are coming out with factory chips for both the Cooper and the Cooper S next year, but if you chip your car with any current aftermarket chips....chances are you will void your warranty.
The word I got from a stateside Chip manufacturer is that Mini/BMW has reworked the software portion of the chip on the mini a few months back. I was told that chip delay was because the aftermarket guys were waiting for a final/stable platform to develop the new chip.
I heard from my dealer that BMW is planning to release their "Diamond Chip" as a dealer installed option. It's supposed to producce 190hp and not void the warranty.

OOH! Is that for the reg. Cooper or the S or both?
Yeah, is that 190 ponies for the S or standard Cooper??? Still, if it raises either model 27 hp- that's good. Any idea how much these chips will run? I definetly need one so I can run the AC and not worry about stalling in this heat! That would help it cope better, right???
There are some upgrades available in Europe, when or if they will make it to the USA is unknown. Digi-Tec, a German tuner has a chip for the S that reportedly gives 210 hp, 248 nm torque and a 230 km/h (143 mph) top speed. Cost is $1250. John Cooper Works in England sell a 132 hp conversion for the Cooper which includes a new cylinder head, intake and exhaust. Cost is about $2800 plus tax, installation, etc. It does not void your warranty/ is approved by BMW in England (only, at this time). JCW is working on a 200 hp conversion for the S but it has not been released yet. I don't know if either company will sell to the USA.Digi-TecJohn Cooper Works
why dont you take the back seats out of the mini and put a blown big block chevy 502 and let the blower stick right out the sunroof! that will give ya a good 800 horses
