The MCS I bought was a demo car with 4000 miles on it. My service indicator says my next service is at around 10K miles. If I'm not mistaken, the car would have its first oil change at 10K.

Since I don't know how my MCS was driven in the first 4K miles of its life, do you recommend get a supplemental oil change before 10K? (I have 5050 miles on it right now). My driving habits are a healthy mix of highway and city driving ...

Thanks!

... it mainly be for your peace-of-mind (the motor may not care) but if it means one less thing for you to worry about, Go Ahead!

I would at least make sure the oil's full, and if it's gonna make you sleep better at night, go ahead and change it!

bumping this thread back up, coz I got a follow up question

If it's too much of a pain in the *** to take my car into the dealer for this extra oil change, would it be ok to do it somewhere like jiffy lube??

I got the instructions from another thread on how to reset the service indicator

I would'nt let one of those "instant oil change places touch my '88 Jetta w/ 240k on it...let alone anything I really cared about.

point taken. I remember i took my Lexus for an oil change at quiklube or something like that coz i wanted a 500 mile oil change. They had a hard time even removing the filter coz they had never dealt with the car before. Prbly best to take it to the dealership then..

You probably don't want to reset the Service Indicator until the Indicator has passed the 10,000 (First Service) point. It will start counting down from 15,000 when you reset for the Second Service point. Every reset will start over and count down from 15,000.

I'd probably have it changed. I'm from the old school and had mine changed at 4000 miles by the dealer. Cost me about $50. They did not reset anything so, I'll get the free one at the 10,000 mile mark which is what I wanted and then do the regular 10,000 intervals.
