Gas tank clean up!!!

Does any one know how to clean the fuel tank on a MC?
It appear some Idiot broke the gas cap and pour dirt inside my tank . I call that dealer and they want to charge me $672.00 just to check if there's something in it. I will like to know if anybody as an idea how hard is to take down the tank and clean it, or if is worth to pay al that money just for the check up.

MANN!!!!! I'm no expert, but for that kinda coin, they should be replacing it, filling up the tank and buying you dinner!

Seriously, it sounds like you are being taken!

not worth that much...

get under the car and it should be pretty straight forward...
you will have to unbolt your exhaust and drop it
you will also have to take off your rear drivers side wheel and wheel well liner (I think)
then it should find the bolts that are on the straps that hold the tank in place and undo those...then be carefull dropping the tank down cuz fuel lines and stuff are all still connected.
When you get those off then dump it out and rinse out the whole thing.....right?

Call your insurance company. This is vandalism and should be covered under your comprehensive portion of your policy.

Guess it all depends on skill level

Sounds like the dealer price included replacing the fuels SYSTEM not just cleaning the tank/

I'd probably do it the DIY way. Thats just me. I like hands on things, so its what ever floats your boat. It would be really interesting taking town the gas tank and saying, I just did over $700+ worth of work in a few hours! Damn I'm good! lol

I'd avoid the insurance route if at all possible. Depending on your deductible, you might end up costing yourself more in the future due to an increased premium due to having filed the claim than what your indemnity for the claim would be.

the worst case scenario, the fuel filter protects the system from the dirt... and you have to clean out the tank.. a ton of labor tho

I wonder how this losewr managed to brake and access the gas cap. The gas cap lid can only be opened when all doors are unlocked. Did you leave your car opened?

Here's a diagram of the fuel tank that might be helpful:

Vandalism is not something that gets your rate increased. It is considered the same as a rock hitting your windshield.
