Smoke on startup

Lately I've been noticing a little bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust when my car is started. It only happens when it starts though, never when idling/driving/accelerating, so because of that I assume that I have nothing to worry about...is that assumption correct??

Hey there,

What color is the smoke???? If it has a blue tint to it ( oil smoke ) I would say that maybe your valve guides are leaking.
You normally only see it on start-up after the car has sit for a little while.

Good luck

There is no blue tint to it. Its just a "smokey" color...i guess you could say grey.

Hmmm...

Well as a rule the smoke color code is:

Black smoke = unburnt fuel
blue / white smoke that hangs around = oil
white smoke that dissipates ( like fog ) = water / anti-freeze ( also can smell sweet if anti-freeze).

several things can cause smoke - once you figure out what type of smoke it is - then you can find out where it is coming from.

Hope this helps
