LAG or what?

Car: 03 MCS

I was testing out my newly bought used 03 MCS with 37k miles and something wierd happen. Anyways, I was at the stop light on red then when the light turned green, I floored it. Shift 2nd almost to the Redline then on second gear the car almost like it died, it lagged for about 3 to 5 second. The gas pedal was floored but nothing happen, no rev sound, just plain nothing. What do you guys think is the problem? Please help. Thanks.

I agree, sounds like traction control. Sometimes you go over a little bump while accelerating and it triggers the traction control and kills your fun.

If the traction controll is on and I try for second gear chirps, mine does the same thing. Now I shut that off everytime I get in the car. It restricts the fun IMO.

Yep, it's DSC. You'll notice the blinking yellow light at the bottom of the speedo when it kicks in.

My car has an ASC button, is that the same as DSC? I didn't see any blinking sign in my speedometer. Does the ASC comes on automatically?

It sure does- you need to manually toggle the traction control switch until a yellow triangle symbol is constantly lit on your speedometer. When you shut off the car, the traction control is automatically reset to "on". You'll see that when you turn your car back on that the symbol will not be lit. You could buy one of those MCAW deluxe circuits sold by Outmotoring if you want to keep the traction control off when you restart your car. I have one, and it took all of 5 minutes to install. I did it in a parking lot waiting for a perscription refill! The bonus of the MCAW is that it allows one touch operation for raising the windows (actually, that is what it is originally designed to do...)

So when the ASC symbol is not lit, does this mean is ON or OFF?

If it works like DSC when it is flashing that means it is in use right at that moment. When the light is off then traction control is on. When the light is on it is a caution symbol to let you know traction control is off.

Ok when my car Lag the ASC sign was not lit on my speedo, I think this is why it Lag when I floored it on 1st and 2nd gear. Ever since I bought the car (A month now) the ASC light was not on because I didn't what it was for. Thank you guys.

My Mini didn't have that problem of laggin for the first 3,000 miles, after that I had to turn off the DSC and up until that time, I was getting 3rd gear chirps with the A/C running..gotta love the S, lol..
