Cooper S tranny problems?

Can anyone owning a MCS tell me if they've noticed a clunk shifting into second? Nomatter how gently i do it, it sounds like metal on metal bangin together... One day it's there, the next it's gone, and it's only when shifting from 1-2, or 2-1. If it was one of my old old Trabants i'd know what to do, but this car is a little to high tech for me to be taking it apart... Any ideas? :???:

Tollag, you're up in Maine, right? Try calling Gary King at MINI Peabody and see if he can offer some advice over the phone before you make the long trip to MA. He's really up on the latest info. on MINI's and he's been a huge help whenever I contact him. He's a great guy and goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure top service. His number is 978-536-0088. Good Luck!
P.S. He's also a regular visitor to this site so he may even contact you directly.

Had a very similar situation when I took delivery of my (then new) 2000 Golf GTI VR6. It finally did it when the dealer was test driving it. They tore apart the transmission, replaced several parts, and all of a sudden it's PERFECT. Don't assume "they all do that" if your tranny misbehaves. Problems in the transmission usually only get WORSE, with time. If you have a good dealer, they'll make it right.

I have a 'klunk' from 1st to 2nd most of the time, and sometimes 2nd to 3rd... You mean this is NOT normal?? I like that sound...
Oh well, i'll give it a little time before I ask the dealer... I don't have time not to have a car right now... and hey, i'll be under warantee(sp?) for a while...

>>You can't pop this clutch in second gear, and expect smooth transitions. She needs to be gently persuaded, if you don't want to lose your lunch. Are you experiencing this during the shift, or clutch engagement?
For me it's when the gear is engaged, ie: when I physically move the stickshift, the klunk is in no relation to the clutch...
