I just had the inspection 11 done at my favorite independent mechanic - I have a 2006s with 37000 miles. He also changed the cabin air filter which had not been done before (it was horrible). I am wondering why it had not been done during earlier service with the dealer? He charged me $350 for the service --- I am going to ask about the belt, It wasn't listed on his invoice. artsylady

at 37k miles you shouldn't have needed an insp2 that should be just an oil service. which is an oil change and your cabin filter.

at our dealership, the inspection 2 is a very large service and if itemzed is well worth the money. you get an oil change, microfilter, air filter, belt, a scan of the system. a midtroncis test of the electical system, and cvt fluid change for auto's.

if your handy with a wrench most if not all is doable yourself. But not everyone wants or is able to do it.

my take...

I had inspection II done this past January, at 48571 miles. I forked over $857, very reluctantly. The car is an '03, so I was looong ago out of warranty. I was on the fence about springing for this kind of coin, but my Mini dealer broke down the invoice and once I saw what was done, I felt a little better about it. In addition to all the stuff described in the manual, they also replaced the spark plugs. I have a CVT, so the fluid was changed too. The labor rate is now up to $100 an hour here, so it was 3.5 hours of the cost ($350). Parts were $507. Labor was $83 an hour in late '06 for comparison. Unbelievable. As if the car is harder to work on now than when it was new. They want $886 for brakes all the way around (rotors and pads) and I am still deciding if I want to spring for that. I'm fast approaching 55k and the pads are less than the backing plate now. I don't have far to go. I'm not going to try to do the brakes myself. I don't think I have the wear sensors, since they didn't show up until later in the '03 build. My build was in December of '02. Anybody kow a good indie brake shop in this area that has worked on a Mini before?
