MC (non-s): engine idle ticking

Note: the following is relate the the MC, and in my case specifically the 2006 MC (non-s).

Problem: at idle and when the clutch is depressed, I hear a constant ticking sound (it varies anywhere between approximately 2 Hz and 4 Hz). The noise is quite pronounced in the passenger compartment, and sound seems like it is coming from forward of the dash. Outside the car with the engine on I don't hear the same sound (hood up or hood down).

I have done a couple searches and came up with a couple similar sounding descriptions, but these all seemed to be MCS owners.Has anyone had a similar experience with a MC (non-s)? And if so what did your dealer say/do to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I'd almost bet you have a collapsed vacuum line somewhere.

Thanks for the comment.

I just finished reading a little about vacuum leaks. Seems like something for the dealer to hunt down.

One additional possible symptom: at idle my engine RPMs fluctuate a little. The tachometer needle floats between maybe 850 to 925 rpms, rather than holding constant.

I'm not sure if that is abnormal or just something the MC engine does that I'm noticing now for the first time. I don't recall seeing that happen before, but honestly I may not have been paying it that close of attention.

Collapsed (or more likely - partially collapsed) vacuum line just got a higher probability (fluctuating idle). Let the dealer handle that scavenger hunt.

Now that I have an idea of what the problem might be, that's my plan.

Yeah, that's what the warranty's for. Good luck, and keep us posted.
