New 2006 Cooper jumpy at very low speed/throttle

I meant 2006, not 1006

I just picked up my Cooper on Saturday. I know that the more I drive it the better it'll start feeling, but I just want to see if it's normal. When in traffic and I'm stoping and getting at really slow almost still speeds, the car kinda jumps/stutters a little until I either totally stop or start going a little faster. It's a CVT. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

This is just one of the quirks of the CVT. After a few weeks, you'll figure out how to adjust your driving to ease through that jumpy spot and won't really notice it anymore.

It bugged me for the first couple weeks we had my wife's CVT Cooper, but I haven't even noticed it in over a year until you reminded me of it today.

Yep, my fiance was so sure there was something wrong with the transmission in her new PW MC that we took it into the dealer for a checkup when it was a month old. I told her it was just operator error because I didn't feel that in my MC (both have the CVT), nor did I feel it when I drove hers.

Her MINI checked out fine and she's since said it feels a lot smoother to her. I suspect she's learned how to ease into the accelerator.

Jumpy CVT

It goes away after a while, or your driving response to it improves. I did install a Engine Damper over the weekend and could be my imagination but that jerkiness went away.

The CVT is not a hydraulic automatic. It is not an automatic transmission at all.

Since the C "continuous" variable belt can not disengage, there is a wet bath clutch that the computer engages slowly to get the car rolling and engage the metal belt drive.

The jerk that you feel is the clutch engaging fully.

Thanks for all the replies. Good to know it's normal. Still a little annoying. Hopefully either it or I get(s) better.

i learned to give the car gas and not make it jump after about 3 days. my mom on the other hand has the car jumping like a rabbit every time she gives it gas. the only time the car does it no matter what is when i have to pull into my garage (its up a slightly steep incline).
