Cleaning Alta Intake

'ello 'ello...

I need (very desperately) to clean my Alta CAI -- I'm just wondering how long the turnover or "dry time" is? When I cleaned my preceding K&N drop in, my car was out of commission for almost 3 days, waiting for the filter element to dry. This will obviously affect when I pull it for cleaning...

Thanks, guys!

I have cleaned mine several times. I just clean it, rinse it, blow it off with an air hose, oil it and back in it goes. Maybe 30 min. tops.

You can use a hair dryer too...
Just make sure to get all the water out (and oil it again!) and you'll be set (15-30 min tops!)

Fantastic! The K&N said not to use either of those things, so I assumed it was the same with the Alta. Thank you!

If you use a hair dryer, keep it a good distance from the filter, and on a cool setting. You dont want to risk burning or melting the filter element. A good thing to do if you dont like down time is to get another filter and when you need to, take out the dirty filter, oil and put in the new one, and then you have PLENTY of time to clean that dirty filter.

I cleaned/washed mine last night. Put in a towel over night and it got most of the moisture out. put infront of a normal fan for 35 minutes today, and its dry as a bone now.

I need to clean my filter soon (it's not the alta, but uses a similar foam filter). Is there a special type of oil that I should use? When I had a K&N on my previous car, I used the K&N oil.

Thanks

Any foam filter cleaning kit I use the UNI one that most MINI vendors stock. Also any motorcycle shop should have one. You can yuse the KN varitey but its not as good for the filter and I wouldnot reccomend it. K&N filters are made of different matieral with different characteristics and use a different system.

Toastie I just did this today, I hosed, sprayed the clenaer all over, let it sit fora bout 5 min. then hosed again thoughtly until it was all red, let it sit and dry for 1/2 hour, bit of oil round the inside and then took care of the out side, ready to instal again. whole process took 45 min without and drying assistance, taking my time and grabbing lunch while the filter dried.

What is the cost of the UNI? I used the K&N cleaner kit I purchased from Wally's world (Walmart) for like $15.

Anyone know where I can buy a foam filter cleaning kit without having to order it online?

Tried AutoZone and Advanced with no luck. :(

Thanks!
