Rattling Tensioner Bar

I purchased one of the Tensioner Bars that keep the belt tensioner from crashing into the Crankshaft pulley when the belt breaks.
It seems as though the tensioner bar is now rattling at low RPMs and is really a nuisance.
Any one else find this as well?
What did you do besides removing the bar?
The new longer bolts were each red loctited and torqued to 24 ft.lbs.

I feel your pain

I too noticed a weird rattle after the tensioner stop bar install...Given the long weekend, I plan to rip off the entire tensioner (and also install an m7 16%sc pulley) and try to solve the problem, hopefully a few washers is all that is needed...

Keep me posted on your progress, I'll keep u informed of mine

This is the very reason I'd rather use a cable.

That is exactly what I ended up doing, but I used one piece stainless ends crimped onto a stainless cable.

For the guys with the bar, on the rear bolt where the bar "slides" I threaded a bolt in from the backside, basically turning the factory bolt setup into a stud setup, and use a lock nut to tighten the bar. Don't use a Nylock nut, use one that locks by being oval shaped. Also, try using some fiber washers to isolate the bar.

The cable looks much better than the metal strap!

Did you fabricate this cable or is it available from a vendor, I have'nt seen these before.

If fabricated by you, would you be interested in making me one for $ ?

Thanks,
Paul

I haven't made one, but if either PARTSMAN or XTREEM could report the length of the cable needed, the stranded cable and ferrules are sold at most hardware stores.

I made mine using the MyMini stop bar for the length. The centerline of the front hole to the centerline of a bolt all the way to back of the slot.

If anyone has a stop bar that isn't installed, could you measure that maximum travel distance for us? It would be of great help for the NAM communuty.

MiniFr34k,
Ive had some pretty good success with the cable alternative mentioned in this thread. I tried fiber washers to try and and lessen the vibration with my bar but the required 24lbs of torque tears them to shreds....

my honest advise? dump the bar, make a cable and get motoring!

I installed the stop bar a few weeks ago. I placed a flat washer under the damper at both ends, and at the non slot end, two flat washers between the damper and the stop bar. This leveled the stop bar to the damper. No rattles!

By adding such washers, did this mean new bolts (longer ones) were required?
tshubin.. any chance for measurements for the wire? or is this a case by case scenario requiring trial and error?

Thanks in advance.

Nope. Used the ones that came with the bar. (myminiparts)

I'd still prefer a cable, for i'm sure it'd definately have NO rattles.
