Removing tranny

As stated in an earlier post today, I've got a leak that is running down the clutch release rod and coming out around the pitman arm that the slave cylinder actuates. The slave cylinder IS NOT leaking, its something inside the bell housing.

So my question is, how bad is removing the tranny on a MINI? I've removed/replaced countless trannys on RWD cars, but never done a FWD one. Just wondering from guys who have actually done it. Do you have to drop the engine and trans to get them apart? or can you remove the tranny while the engine remains? I suspect the input-shaft seal is leaking, and lube is running down and escaping by the clutch rod. Obviously I'll replace clutch and PP while im in there.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

In that write up, that guy removes alot of things that don't need to be removed. Pretty much remove bumper to slacken front end (radiator and core support do not need to be removed) and drop subframe. After that the trans is easily removed.
