Squeaky groan solved!

I had a squeaky groan kinda noise coming from the rear of my car for a while. It sounded like a suspension noise, but didn't necessarily match up with the suspension movement. I spent a while last week going through all the posts on this subject and worked my way through the obvious subjects - e.g. loose hatch/boot mounts, heat shields rubbing, etc. - but nothing worked.

Turns out one of the plastic rivet fasteners for the straps that go round the fuel tank had either popped off or was never there. Sure enough, when I pushed on the tank from underneath that squeaky groan noise was found. I replaced the missing item, made sure all the others were nice a tight (there are two for each tank), and problem solved .

Thought I would pass this on for others who may have a similar problem.

Glad you found it! Too bad most dealers aren't as attentive.

Congratulations on fixing the problem, and being so thorough and methodical in finding the source of the noise.

I had a similar problem last week with mine - every time I hit any sort of bump, I was getting a squeak/rattle noise coming from the passenger door. I took everything out of the passenger map pocket, but the noise persisted. I finally took *everything* out of the car, including the stuff in the boot. Turns out, it was either my maglite or the case for my tire-pressure gauge that was rattling around in the boot, and the noise was somehow being transmitted up to the passenger door panel (at least, that's where it sounded like it was coming from).

I battened everything down securely in the boot, and the car's been noise-free for the last 300 miles.
