These are actually inserts or solid metal bushings that are threaded on the inner and outer diameter of the insert. This is a link, which is apparently sold under the Helicoil brand name. Mine weren't branded that way, but the package looked almost the same. http://www.globalspec.com/FeaturedPr..._x_125/23773/0
I didn't call them Helicoils. I referenced the name of the COMPANY, which does market spark plug repair inserts.

So how the heck do you get that tool down in the tube and do the "reaming" required, and get the insert put in properly? Seems like a lot of faith required to just shove it down there and hope that it doesn't go in crooked, etc.

One of mine blew a while ago. My mechanic was able to repair from above with a Time-Sert. Not sure how he did it or what the tool was like. I'd imagine that it had some kind of collar that held the thing in line with the spark plug tube.

So you might need more tools to get it done.

I decided on time-serts on all 4 just while i'm doing it. i just need to get the right size to order them... I'm going to go research but if anyone knows the right size that'd save me some time.

thanks.
