Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
I just had my Intake Manifold Pressure sensor go - BMW said it was the damaged by my intake filter oil (Alta) - does anyone know if this is possible, i know there's no MAF in the mini, so it cannot affect that part.
There's a MAP sensor (actually 2, but only one in the intake path) after the IC. It could be contaminated by oil since without an OCC you can get oil in the IC and beyond.
So I guess the dealer could be right.
MAF sensors are the ones that get are usually associated with the problem of oil contamination from air filter oil. The oil gets on the sensitive part that is in the air stream which measure the amount of the air going in to the motor. This is the first instance I've heard of a problem with oil contamination of a MAP sensor in all the time on the forum. I'm not saying it's not possible, just not likely!
That was my exact thinking! I thought it was the dealer just finding something to blame (of course the aftermarket parts) My airfilter is also overdue for a cleaning, so it's been running like that for months.
yeah your dealer's full of it . i've run without a occ for maybe 60000 mls. prior to finally doing the 16.00 dollar job (works awsome btw) . and i use an oiled filter . but they hold all the aces . so you gotta bend over .
It's not the first time this has happened. Excessive oil on an Alta filter can damage the sensor. If you look there should be a 2 or 3 year old thread on this.

Right. This has and does happen if the air filter has been excessively oiled.
