Is Comfort Access Option worth it???

It came as standard on my '05, but I would not have paid to have it. Sure it's convienent, but you have to be fairly close to the car for it to work. So if you're walking to your car and pushing the convienence opening button by the time you arrive at the car you have to wait for it to finish opening. If you open the door before it's finished it stops.
It is nice on a really hot day to open the roof and windows before getting into the car, but $500 worth. Nah.

I test drove 007MCS yesterday, MA demostrated the feature. Really nice actually since my key ring is kinda clunky with work keys, truck key, ACR key, and MASSIVELY LARGE 06MCS key. Wifey loved it, just touch the door and push the button. Even worked with her purse in the backseat. Wonder how you charge it? you must have to put it in the slot every now and again to keep it charged like the older keys...
at $500 bucks, i don't know. As part of the $1400 convience package maybe. See I want the comfort access and the blue tooth ($1100) together, so what is an extra $300 bucks to get the remainder items.

No, it's got a coin-size battery in the back. Very common battery, easy to get at just about any drugstore.

Do a search on this in the R56 forum. Someone had a lot of problems with this, it locked him out of his car while it went through a carwash. And if the battery dies in the thing you could get locked out. Sourds like it could be more trouble that it's worth ($500) to me.

I like the comfort access a lot. I can leave my key in my attache when i drive into the office in the mornings. Saves me from having to carry one more thing in my already overcrowded pockets. I would think that this would come in especially handy for women, as they could leave the keys in their purse and never have to bother with looking for the car keys.

BMW charges 1000 for it on 5 series and above,
BMW charges 500 for the 3 series
comfort access is new for 07, don't know who had it on 05 but hang on to that car if it did come with it.
I feel it is neccessary especially if you lose keys alot or honestly for the ease of use factor, never have to dig in your pocket, ever.

Initially, I didn't see the big deal, but it came in a package. Now that I have it, I love it. I can keep my key in my pocket or bag. Although I read reports about delays in the system recognizing the key before you could unlock/lock the doors, I have experienced no such problems. Is it worth $500? I don't know; depends how much $500 means to you. But I sure love it.

I definately love my comfort access key and as LynnEl said, since it was a part of a package, the cost was somewhat obscured for me.
Remember there are a few things that I'd just like to mention
1) It has the standard unlock/lock/open trunk buttons that most cars have these days. But aren't those are usually a separate clicker from the key itself or it is a larger key?
2) Each "key" holds some (albeit limited) personal settings and will adjust the car to whichever key is in the car
3) The battery is rechargable by simply putting it into the ignition holder. If the battery runs out, the actual key can be detached and open the door.
4) The fob is smart about not locking the doors when the fob is inside the car.
5) I have yet to see how a valet will handle the comfort key. I imagine that I would actually be pretty amused by it. My friend always has to explain his 7 series BMW to the valet and I'm always chuckling to myself when he explains it.

what??? my husband likes to go to beach and was going to leave the fob in the car and remove the key inside and attach it to his shorts. so... does that mean the comfort access won't allow him to lock the car with the key?

I got it with the package as well. It is nice. Put the fob in the coin pocket of my Levis and just leave it there. Lock the car with the black button on the door handle. Go in shopping. Come out, open the boot without a key. Open the door by pressing the black button on the door handle.
It is as though the car recognizes you and will let you unlock it, but no one else can. It is a convenience gimmick. I enjoy it. I imagine if it was raining I would enjoy it even more.

I have it on a Toyota. I didn't want it (one more thing to break) but it was in a package. Now when I drive the other car it is such a pain in the A$$ to have to actually get a key out of my pocket and insert it in a slot. How barbaric. :impatient
So I guess I am saying, Yes it is worth it
