I noticed a bulge in the sidewall of my 17" runflat yesterday while washing the car. The ridge that sits flush with the edge of the rim is a little deformed where the bulge is. It looks like the tire is trying to pop itself off the rim. I didn't hit anything. Taking it in tomorrow, but thought I'd run it by you guys first. Thanks. JR

Koolmini had a similar thing happen to him on his way to Deal's Gap. The sidewall looked like a pimple about to burst, except his did!

Recommendation, get it replaced, NOW!

thanks for the reply, Ryhphile. Was Koolmini running runflats? Couldn't tell from the pics. Wasn't sure if you could use them with aftermarket wheels. I'm taking it in first thing tomorrow am. JR

I had the same problem. Get it replaced before it goes on you.
If the edge of the rim is damaged, it was probably caused by a road hazard and the dealer probably won't do anything for you.

The tire might have been damaged when you changed to the new wheel. Maybe the installer didn't do something right.

sorry, retroom. Didn't understand what you meant by new wheel. I've still got the S-lites that came on my car. Anyway, I took it in today and they said I probably hit something. I don't think so, but I guess my wife could have found a pothole. Will get it replaced or re-mounted tomorrow if possible. Not sure who'll pick up the tab. Thanks. JR

I had the same thing on one of my classic minis. It was a problem with the tire, which had to be replaced, not remounted. That time, I had not hit anything.

Four people in our group ran the GAP very aggressively. Along with Koolmini, I also have the Pirelli run flat’s, Yucca Patrol had another brand and I’m not sure of 2minis.

First off, Koolmini (David) was lucky to have his tyre blow on a pot hole and not the Dragon, if you want to think it lucky blowing a tyre.

Everyone agreed the tyres we all were using performed fantastic. Yucca did say he had the tyres chatter across the asphalt as he went through turns. I, other than squeal had no chatter and great traction for all the runs. My tyres were inflated to 36 Lbs and had been warmed up to peak before starting. The performance of the Pirelli’s was fantastic.

I would like to put a high performance non run flat tyre on my car, but only driving for work and pleasure, have a very hard time justifying performance tyres for once or twice a year to have some fun. The run flat’s in my opinion are great.

BTW - 2minis front tyres were without tread so to speak and after laying as much rubber as he did a few times, I hope he put new stuff on.
