buying a 2002 cooper s, stick, no sunroof, pristine condition with 50k miles, however, it needs clutch and rear pads. the negotiated price is 15k plus half the cost of clutch, flywhhel and rear pads and installation. is this a good price? what is the typical cost of the clutch and installation (HIS DEALERWANTS $3200 AND $300 HUNDRED FOR REAR PADS.) YIKES!

Don't dealers normally cut you a deal if you need both the flywheel and clutch as replacing the flywheel requires basically the same disasembly?
Replacing the pads is something you could DIY after buying pads from Classic or Morristown MINI.

I'd say the prices seem high to me overall.

 

15K for a lightly optioned Cooper with 50K miles a bad clutch and rear brakes. Sounds high considering a new Cooper can be had for not much more with 0 miles and 3 years maintenance\4 year warranty. Wow, hope I get near that for resale when I trade in.

 

Yeah, my residual on an 05 MC with half the miles and 1 year of the 36k free service is only a couple hundred more than that. The S factor doesn't make up the difference in my mind but to each is own I guess.
