Engine Cooling Fan is Cycling

Aloha! Hey, my 2005 MCSCa has about 24K miles on it. Just noticed that on a moderately warm day with the A/C on, the underhood cooling fan cycles on and off. The fan remains on for 15 seconds then shuts off for 10 seconds. The timing doesn't vary and the gauges don't show any overheating. The cycle continues to repeat itself and sometimes I notice that the cabin A/C fan slows down for a bit then picks back up.

Any ideas before I hit the dealer?

The electric fan usually runs when the airflow through the radiator isn't fast enough to do any cooling. I'd say it's normal. I can get my Electric fan to click on while the car is OFF in 65-70 degree weather after driving hard for 20-30 min pretty easily... . So long as your dummy gauge shows normal temps I wouldn't be concerned.

Do we still think it's normal?

this is not normal, This is caused by the low stage in the resistor for the fan going out. When the a/c kicks on and the pressures reach a certian threshold the high fan kicks on. Unfornutly to fix you must replace the whole fan

You get a new coolng fan or a aftermarket replacement for the failed resistor on the cooling fan...
Short cycling of the highspeed fan is caused when tye resistor faoled, rendering the low speed portion of the fan inop....
Very common...a large % of gen1 mini's do/have had this issue.

Or do this:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...olution-5.html

By getting this:
http://ph.mouser.com/ProductDetail/A...XjsYM7uQ%3d%3d

or:
http://www.detroittuned.com/shop/?productID=530

Cheaper & you get to retain your OEM fan til it finally waves the white flag.
