MINI MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT!
#28
Sorry to hear about your Transmission. I have a 2003 MC whose transmission started making a grinding noise at 68,000. Took mine to the dealer last week and found out it was my Midland Transmission. It appears my casing had been leaking fluid. After reading North American Motoring it appears that some of the the Midland transmissions have had major problems. Mini should recognize this. I was of course out of warranty. But my dealer did agree to pay for the cost of a new transmission. Im paying for the labor of putting it in. Since it is broken down I have also decided to replace the clutch which is probably a good common sense move since it would soon need to be replaced. Im not happy but at least im not having to pay for the transmission. In your situation I have heard you can order a different transmission made to fit the MC manufactured by Peugot through Mini UK at less cost due to the exchange rate. Anyway Im feeling your pain and as a Mini owner Im somewhat diappointed in the product. I realize a car does not last forever but I do not feel transmissions should fail at that particular mileage. Hope things work out on your repairs. I do love my MC but will decide soon whether to sell mine down the road or think about getting another Mini. The 2007 Mini does come with the same sixth speed transmission as the "S" .
