Confirm or deny that Rspeed 22mm swaybar fits R56?
Hi all,
Can anyone confirm or deny that a 22mm Rspeed rear swaybar made for an R53 will actually fit the R56? Apparently no one at Rspeed has fit one up to a R56 so they are playing it safe by stating that it does not fit.
Thanks a bunch,
Mark

I really wanted to buy a Rspeed 22m sway bar. But I emailed them and they said that it wouldn't work. I checked with another company that sells them and they said the same thing. So I bought an Alta 22mm bar, Alta said that the R53 bars will fit the R56's. They were right, so, I am quite sure that ANY of the R53 sway bars will fit the R56's.
There is my input.

I just installed the RSpeed 22mm rear sway bar on a 2008 Clubman R55; it fits like a glove and works perfectly! The RSpeed rear sway bar will fit both the R56 and the R55. This has been a great rear sway bar for my Clubman, after a week of some "pushing" it to the limit, I can say it performs very well!
Word to the wise....if you're installing the rear sway bar on a Clubman, be sure your fuel tank is as close to empty as possible, as it is supported by the rear sub frame which you'll need to drop out to install the rear sway bar. My fuel tank was pretty much full when I did the install, and as you may guess the rear sub frame drooped out real easily! I used two free standing hydraulic jacks to push it back into place and put the bolts back in when I was done. Quite an easy job, overall.
I also believe, that you could remove only one rear strut when installing the sway bar on the Cluman as well, as it's pretty easy to remove and install on the Clubman. This was my first experience with a sway bar switch and I was done in about 1.5 hours, clean up and all. Good luck!
The "Auto On Sport Mode" modification is next for the little red Clubman....wooohooo!

My Clubman is not an S, just a plain old Clubman (Yes, I'd wish I had bought an S, though!). I am running the standard 15" spooler wheels and tires with the Continental Conti Pro All Season tires, for now. The rear suspension is identical on the S and the Standard Clubman, unless you ordered the "Sport" suspension, in which case you'll have a larger rear sway bar (19mm?) and I have heard a different spring rate also.
I have the RSpeed bar set on the middle setting and it works great. I expect the front and rear axle grip to tighten up when I upgrade to 17" wheels and 205/45/17 All Season tires.
Good luck with your upgrades!

R Speed 22mm Sway Bar Clubman Fitment
It worked great for 2 weeks (wamer weather), than just two days ago I started getting a subliminal clunk from the back of the Clubman when I hit bumps, turns out the colder weather makes things move diffrently as we all know, and the sway bar was just barely tapping the unibody on bumps. It must flex just a little diffrenetly in the cold (low 30's), causing it to tap dance with the unibody.
I am going to my dealer tommorrow, and will be looking under an R56 to see if the clearance is the same on it. I think the unibody is different above the rear sub frame on the R55, as many have used the RSpeed sway bar on the R56 with out problems. Perhaps my climate here in Utah is also a factor? For what it's worth, I loved the RSpeed Sway bar and rate it a 10! I wish there was a way to keep it on my car. Unfortunately I will need to go to a 17 or 19 mm bar to resolve fitment issues. Dang!
A fitment answer from experience for everyone. Perhaps an R56 owner can chime in and tell us how close it fits on that and how it works, thanks!

Yeah, I checked those 1st. I could clearly see where the sway bar was ever so slightly bumping up agianst the unibody. I put the stock bar in, and bingo! no more clunks. If the end links were the problem they'd still be clunking now and they are not. I'll watch that next time, though.
I think the bushing set the bar just a wee but close and when I hit a bump, I get the thump. I am going to try an Alta 22mm bar, or a Factory "Sport Suspension" bar shortly.
By the way, the yellow Mini in your club belongs to a friend of mines sister here in Salt Lake City. Ask her if her brother in law is an author/RN in Salt Lake City. The Gold/yellow mini that is owned by a young lady there is always bragged up by her sister her in Salt Lake. You have a great club there! Is she still selling MINI stationary and such?
We'll see how an Alta or other solution turns out here shortly.

I just spent a few hours at my local dealership, getting the PW reset on the Clubman. Found the problem on the Sway Bar fit....the Clubman has a small bracket welded on just above the rear sway bar in the center of the car, which is not present on the R55. When the bar flexes, assuming your running a 22mm, it bumps slightly into the center of the unibody of the car. The RSpeed 22mm bar will fit an R56, though. The sheet metal on the R55, is just a touch different as I suspected. Has anyone suceessfully installed and run an Alta or H-Sport sway bar on a Clubman, with out fitment issues? By the way, my end links were fine, too. The problem was in the sheet metal difference.

I just purchase NM Engineering swaybar yesterday. Theirs is 22mm and if you go to their site NM Engineering, you can download their instruction and see that 22mm does not need any mods nor cutting/trimming.
