The problem I am having is that I also have a brass tube which fits exactly on the shock shaft but does not appear in the exploded view of the shock.
I just do not remember if it goes with the stock shock or not.
Anyone have any idea if it is part of the shock? My coilover instructions seem to refer to it as an "upper mount plate's spacing cylinder".

THe the stock rear shock. The tube is a spacer that goes in the top mount rubber bushings. There is a rubber bushing under the top shock mounting bracket (bracket with the two top mounting holes) and there is a smaller rubber bushing on the top side of the shock mounting bracket. The smaller top bushing fits around the protruding portion of the bottom rubber bushing. The tube/spacer fits inside the lower bushing and over the shock shaft.
