215/35-18 vs. 205/40-18

Looks like Mini is putting 205/40s on their JCW offerings while Tire Rack recommends 215/35s. I am leaning toward a bit more sidewall on my 05 MCS. Any thoughts?

Go with a bit bigger sidewall. In my experience, MCS with sport suspension and 205/45/17 tires already makes me feel like I am driving a tank when I am on a bad road (most roads in my area). Very jarring. I avoid potholes and manhole covers like I am playing a video game. Quite comical to watch me driving around town. I know all the holes!

I think for the ride quality you would be gaining with a bigger sidewall, you would not lose much in terms of control.

215/35/18 doesn't sound appealing to me.

Scoop I got on 18" was that you could go either 215/35 or 205/40

Haven't seen em' side by side to see how much more sidewall you'll get.

Little wider tread or a little higher sidewall......

I went from the stock 205/40-18 to 215/40-18 at my first tire replacement. No problems on my GP with JCW suspension. I thought about 215/35-18 but decided on the little extra sidewall because I was making a long trip in the MINI. I might go with 215/35-18 next time just because I might switch to a tire that does not offer 215/40-18.

215/35/18 Goodyear F1 Asymmetric. I was worried about ride but now that I have had then a little while I love them. I think the ride is fine. I live in SoCal and the roads are really good. If I live with bad roads I would have stayed with the 40's.
