NM Motorsport springs it is...

Thanks to dtsoccer6, I ordered a set of NM Motorsport springs. Like my last mini, I was going to order JCW springs again but they never did lower the car as much as I would have liked. (they worked fantastic though)

I've read till my eyes bled and haven't found one bad thing about the NM springs.....so......

Hopefully they'll be here middle of the week... just in time to install them and take my brand new JCW to the track.

Thanks dt.

Hey Mark!

Thanks for the props! You won't be dissapointed, these are the sleeper springs of the year IMO. NM Engineering is going to turn out to be a good company, they have great parts. Trust me, you will be very happy with them. Nick at NM Motorsports is a great guy and will make sure you get them as fast as possible.

Have fun with them and if you have any questions, let me know, I installed them myself with a buddy of mine. With proper equipment, i.e. spring compressor, you should have them on in under an hour. Use the spec sheet they give you at a good alignment shop and your good to go!

Keep us posted.

Thanks bud, I appreciate it. The springs should be in tomorrow. Since the car will be tied up since I'm painting the JCW aero kit tomorrow anyways, I'll stick it on the lift and install the springs.

I'll post pics the day after.... (when my OZ wheels come in)

Thanks,

Mark

i've got my set sitting right next to me, along with the NM engineering 22mm rear sway. The sway is quality. Love the connection points, and the bushing clamps are serious, solid aluminum instead of that flimsy steel bracket. Probably doesn't matter, but when you're spending 200+, it's a very nice touch, they didn't skimp out.

Found a local dealer. They've been an audi/vw dealer, one of the biggest and best in the area, for years. Neuspeed asked them to start carrying the parts. I was their first customer. Heading back after install to be the first mini in their gallery. 10% "introductory" discount too.

Waiting till the 16th to install, there's a local "mod party", meaning free installation as long as I'm willing to get dirty and help others out. Getting an alignment+lower control arms within a few weeks, no biggie since I only drive 5 miles to/from work.

DTsoccer, Did you remove the clear protective tubing on the top portion of the springs, or leave that?

Outmotoring is a dealer for NM products. You can expect the best in customer service from Aaron. I'm going with their springs and the rear bar. Quality stuff.

LOVE EM.... Ride great, handle excellent and lower the car just perfectly. I like them even better than the JCW springs I had on my '08.

Spent a weekend at Roebling Road and got a chance to really check them out.

Fantastic.

Thanks for the picture orangecrush. Car looks great

Yeah, I'm liking the amount of drop as well. And if you say that they're better than JCW, it's a sell for me. I'm going to the track on Monday with my current setup (OEM sport susp) and returning to same track in July. I'm hoping to have the suspension done by then a be able to do a direct comparison.

BTW orangecrush, one more question: did you replace the Control Arms in the back to adjust camber due to drop ? If so, which ones did you go with ?

Not yet. Since the camber isn't adjustable, I'm going to order some camber plates but as of yet, haven't done so.

You little shiet!!! I never said I wouldn't, YOU said you were going to get the chrome blacked out and I said if you are doing that, you are better off getting it wrapped in black vinyl.

I didn't want black, I wanted yellow and since they don't have mellow yellow vinyl, I was left with no choice.

I have had them for awhile now...probably the best thing I did for the car beside the RMW tune. These springs are bada$$...I was outhandling a Cayman S today in the twistes...although my buddy isnt the best driver everyone who tries to get me in the corners is always shocked...and then they give the respect! Thanks NM!

I went with upper and lower rear control arms with the specs the NM instructions said for aggressive driving and they are awesome. I stick so well.

Honestly, people with 1.5 or more in their drop have to rub. There's no way you can't, I mean I have a finger worth of room now since they settled with 4 people in the car and over bumps you'll hear the rear rub...but thats with 4 people and 215/45 tires, which I RARELY have. Otherwise, all I hear is my turbo, intake, and exhaust!

oh and just to be a stickler... the springs are NM Engineering, not motorsports.

NA motorsports is a shop/retail store that is not related at all to NM Engineering, a subsidiary of the same company that owns Neuspeed.

well, i may be switching to coils shortly, so my nm springs may be up for sale.

still haven't fully decided, but I drive my car up to the mountains here, where it's not uncommon to get 6-10" of snow during one day of snowboarding. That plus a lowered car may introduce some problems getting out of a parking spot...

Sorry to hear that! Thats sweet though, coils will be a nice addition to your ride. Plus, getting stuck in the cold, not a good look!

^yea, it's kinda upsetting, i do really like the way they ride. The coils will probably be just as good if not better. Thinkin about the BC Racing ones. I want the lowered look in the summer, but still need the convenience of stock height in the winter.

we'll see, that probably won't happen till later in the summer/fall.

I'm torn...I just got my Clubman S last week and want to lower it. At first I was considering getting a set of Eibach Pro-Kits, as I have them on my my GTI and liked the ride. I am riding with the Sport Package (not sport suspension) and the factory Aero Kit. I also have an Alta 19mm RSB on the way:

(Sorry for poor quality pics, it's off my phone)

My biggest worry is the fact that the car may ride too low. I live in Brooklyn, NY, work on LI, so I'm driving up and down a parkway that tends to be VERY bumpy and pothole ridden. The ride right now can get pretty bone-jarring when going over those bumps while riding stock...And the Run-Flats don't help, I don't think. The Eibachs are on backorder, and I MIGHT get it in a month (I ordered them thru my friend's shop at his price [$193], but can cancel at any time). Now i'm thinking it might be too low for the car and thought to consider the TSW's with the less drastic drop but don't like the fact that they are linear. I'm all for progressive. I'm reading up on what people have to say about both the TSW's (reading mostly positive, but very few negatives, but not sure if they make springs for the R55) and the NM's (all positive so far), but the drop on the NM is almost the same as the Eibach's (1.2 FR/.8 RR vs 1.2/1.0 on the NM).

Anyone have experience between TSW/Eibach & NM? Now I can't decide....Help?
