R56 coilovers on my R53????

I just bought some R56 coilovers to fit on my R53. After some research I know that it can be done, but I'm just unsure if there is anything I need to install them.

Do I need these bushings?
http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop..._bushings.html

Or are those for when people put R53 suspension on a R56?

Is there anything else I need?

Thanks for helping a noob out.

You do not need the bushings.

Okay thanks for the help. So this should just be a straight forward install needing nothing?

If you are planning to lower the car a decent amount, perhaps 1.5" or more, then you may want to consider end links, both front and back.

If you have done other suspensions before, the install is not hard. Just get some spring compressors to ensure you can remove the hats if you new coilover needs it.

Yeah. I've done other installs before. It looks pretty straight forward on the mini. Thanks again for your help.

Alright so I went to install these coilovers this weekend and everything was straight forward except when I got to the front. I should've realized that the r53 and r56 camber plates are different. My new question is can I just buy a set of r53 camber plates and put them on these coils with no problem? I'm assuming so because some coilover manufacturers that don't include camber plates say the r53 and r56 coils are the same. Thanks again for helping a stupid noob out.

You can get the IE fixed plates that add -1.25 camber and are stronger than stock for about the same price...or for more $$ you get fully adjustable ones.

Are the OEM R56 and R53 springs the same? Specifically the OD and ID on the top for the mounts?

I'd like to bring this back ttt... does anyone have a definitive answer on this? It looks like the only difference between r56 coilovers and r53 coilovers are the mounting points for the lower rear coilovers. My understanding from Stratmosphere is that the Vmaxx they sell are identical for both cars. Has anyone done this? I have some BC coilovers (r56) for sale in the marketplace and someone with an r53 asked if they would fit. Thanks for the help guys.

The front camber plates are different too.

Only thing different from the r56 and r53 as far as the coilovers are concerned is; 1) the front plate is different 2) the r56 (ONLY) r56 needs the spacer in on the rear strut.

There are no gains to be had, unless you are speaking about current JCW offerings and such. My guess is the OP got some r56 coilovers for cheap used.

Yes, you should be able to buy a camber plate that fits the coilovers and is designed for use on the r53, BUT that is entirely dependent of the coilover. FYI STAY AWAY FROM the Ireland Engineering adjustable camber plates. They are GARBAGE..

Don't think that's a good idea. Trying to get the holes right will be really hard. Sell what you have and replace it with new, those coilovers are not that expensive.

I've done some research but still can't seem to get straight answers...I'm wondering if I can install R56 H&R RSS coilovers onto my R53. What all do I need to do/modify to make them work? I already have IE fixed plates, will they work for R56 coilovers? Is the rear spacer bushing "built-in" to the R56 coilovers and need to be cut off to fit??

Any help is appreciated...

The fronts are fine if you use R53 tophats.

The rears the difference is the lower mount with the spacer bushing. I do not know if it's built in for H&R coilovers or if you can cut off if it is built in. I'd guess that you can do something to make it fit but don't take my word for it.

I installed H&R coilovers on my car recently which I purchased from an R56 owner. They bolted right up without any modification. I used my R53 top hats for both the front and rears, and everything else was exactly the same. R56's have a special spacer which is used when installing them, but it was not built into the coilover.

Alright, sorry for pulling up an old thread, and don't really have time to research through the forums, will R56 coilovers--ST Suspension--fit on an r53--2002--without any camber plates or any mods? Just swap out and drive?
