c/o kits are only 'better' if the user knows what rates to get and how to tune it properly....which most people don't know how to do.

Well considering "most" people buy coilovers to be able to obtain the maximum drop they can, I think "most" people do know how to set them up. Honestly unless you are running in SCCA nationals, NASA, Phil Wick, etc coilovers are complete functional overkill. What it's all about is the bragging rights (read: I spend more $$ than you do on my car), and the ability to slam the car. Corner balancing, etc is pure stroking for most coilover users. If you think I am blowing smoke, post a poll and see what you get. Besides ONASLED and a few others almost all of us are on them for one of the two reasons above, if not both. Myself included

 

WOOO..I like this post but I think it is just most people know how to lower the coilover to their liking..but thats it..damper, rebound etc...they kno zilch...

My goal here is not to ride kenchan. It's true most owner's don't have a clue what dual or single adjustable coilovers do to a cars performance. My point is most don't care what it does. They want the bling and the ride height.

IMHO, when buying coilovers for performance purposes the first question out of your keyboard shouldn't be: "How low is that man??" It should be "What spring rates are those?" or "What click are you dampers on 5 or 9?, or "Did you consider Motons/Ledas/WMS/Bilsteins?"

Anyone who uses the first one is just posing.......

Joel, i agree with you. Also lets all keep in mind, height adjustable only c/o are more for show off purposes, because you need more than that to fine tune your suspension. The good thing is we all agree on that.

I should have been more specific, on my previous post, i was trying to compare the H&R coilovers (which are height adjustable only) and their Cup Kit. Other systems such as KW V2, PSS9s are more complicated, and total overkill for the street IMHO.

Okay I'm looking to lower my car to a point similar to where fjott lowered his (see "Finally lowered on H&R Coilovers"). I want this look more than anything. I am not going to be tracking the car but 3 or 4 times a year @ Tire Rack. I have been told by several people, Brian@WebbMotorsports, Chad from Detroit Tuned, and a couple others that Coilovers would be overkill in my application and that something cheaper would better serve my purpose. The question I have is what exactly would? I don't know of any lowering springs that give this much of a drop. So is there something or are Coilovers my best bet? If coilovers which ones? I was looking into KW V1s or H&Rs.

Well if you want a certin hight and dont mind paing the price I would go with the coilovers. If you like to mess around with your car and read up on setups to suit your driving style its a plus. once you have it set up right you wont have to mess with it much unless you go to the track. I have my street setup and then at the track i play with it until i get a good setting. I dont mess with the hight on the track because that also changes your alignment.
