so has anyone cut off the plastic trim that sticks down from under the front? Basically the thing that everyone is scrapping on... I would be able to keep my drop if that trim wasn't there... i wonder if it serves any purpose?

It's a wind deflector. Is it optimal to cut it off? No. Would you be okay? Yes.
I would prefer to keep that trim there. Id rather hear that trim rub and know I am getting close to doing more serious damage; then not hear any warning rubbing and then scrape my oil pan.
That part of the trim hangs much lower than your oil pan I believe and it doesn't add real protection to your oil pan. You can use it as a warming system I suppose but as far as the real purpose, I believe it's more of a wind deflector to route the air and not lift the car from underneath for stability. If you want to go real low, you're gonna want to put a skid plate anyway to protect your oil pan.
Every car made has one of some sort up under there..
I always thought it was to create some sort of up-draft to pull air up around engine area to help in cooling or something..
finally able to post here.
