Tire Rotation & Tire Wear question

I've got 17" runflats (Goodyear Eagle RSA 205/45 R17) & about 9500 miles on my car. My tires haven't been rotated yet, & I've got more tread wear (about a third, or 30% more wear) on the front, & obviously more tread left on the rear.

I plan on taking a Father's Day weekend trip to the Dragon next month & was wondering if I should rotate them before then (because of the tread wear)? I make approx 2-3 trips down to the Dragon each year & over the last 1000 miles or so - it seems like I'm hearing a lot more chirping from my front tires when going around curves?

Generally speaking, do I want more tread on the front, or rear?

Should I rotate them B4 my Father's Day trip to the Dragon - or just wait & let the dealership do it @ my 10,000 mile service?

Just say NO to crashing,
Carl

If you do a search on the subject it has been much debated but still no clear answer....even dealers are confused.

by the way .....dealer is likely to charge you for the rotation...rotation is not included in the 10k service, nerver is .....adding to the confusion.

Personally, I have found that I go through two sets of fronts for each set of rears. so I dont rotate, i put new ones on the front and when all four are gone it gives me the option of trying a new brand

I think that at some point if the tread wear is really uneven it would be dangerous to rotate the tires. The last thing you want is the back end slipping around. At 9500 miles without rotation miles I would imagine that the wear is pretty different.

I do 6000mile rotation. I think quite a # of other NAM people follow the same schedule. With that, I got about 25,000 miles out of my RFs.

Rotating the tyres is also pretty easy to do if you have a good floor jack and wheel chocks. Lots of posts about how to take the wheels off. Just remember to go front to back, never change the rotation of the wheels.

I went about that long on my first Good year RF rotation. I rotated them any way even though they were dangerously uneven. It was ok for my use as I was doing a lot of highway driving at the time (33k in 1 year).

I thought the tires were fine after the rotation until my first autoX... the car was reacting horribly.

What I did then was I bought 2 used RFs off the market place for $90 shipped that had about 5-6k on them. And put those on the fronts. Solved the inconsistent handling problem.

I would not go to the dragon after rotating those tires. However, you are in an odd spot. 1 weekend at the dragon and your fronts will probobly be shot. Because of this I'd just go ahead and get new tires before you plan on going down there.

The Mini (2007 R56) owners manual specifically declares tire rotation a bad thing. I find that odd.

If MINI recommended rotation....

IF MINI recommended rotating tires

a) It would need to be covered under pre-paid maintenance. Rotation recommendations are typically less than the 15k mile oil interval hence a new need to bring the car in ..... a bad idea.

b) If it were to be deemed a maintenance issue but not covered they could no longer claim "all maintenance except consumables"

c) If they were to say it needs to be done, but do it yourself, there would be an obligation to make it possible to DIY .... but a car with no spare presents certain problems along that line for those who don't own additional jack/jackstands (my 02 didn't even come with a jack....)

I rotate 'em every 5k. I got +30k on the P'relli's; little less than that on a set of YOKO ES. Have not noticed any negative effects. Unlike doing oil changes sooner than recommended...this cost me nothing but a few minutes with the jack, impact & tourq' wrenches.
