Options to replace 18 inch jcw wheels
Hi folks. I'm taking delivery of an 06 MCS cabrio with most of the jcw aftermarket stuff except the suspensionand lsd. How bad is the brake dust on these? I was thinking of replacing the 18 inch wheels with 16's or 17's, but I know the brakes are larger. So, I have questions.
1. What requirements are there for wheels that would work in a 16 inch or 17 inch size? I am looking for wheels that are as light as possible, but strong and affordable to compliment the jcw performance package. I think 18 inch wheels are too big and heavy.
2. What non-runflats would work for general urban, suburban, hot summer, light winter, light snow, some regular short road trips?
3. Back to the brake dust problem. Do I need black wheels because of the heavier brake dust?

Most 16's will easily clear the stock JCW brakes and would probably be your best option for ride/handling balance, since they would be lighter, cheaper, and allow for more tire/sidewall choices. Check out Enkei RPF1 or Rs-m, Motegi TrakLites, OZ Ultraleggeras, SSR Comps (a bit pricey), 5zigen fn01r-c, or Sportmax 003 (17's). But there are many more that I can't remember off the top of my head, sorry.
There are lots of options in high and ultra high performance all-season tires in 205/50/16, which would seem to be suited to your driving needs.

I'm gettting brand new 18 inch jcw black wheels. I'll have to look up the tires.
I am not really sure I want 18" wheels and I'm not sure that I want runflats and I don't think I'll like black wheels on my car Actually, I think I'd be happy with Kosei's and softer tires. My wife and friends think the black wheels will grow on me, but I'm not sure. I"ll try to load a pic of the car, because I don't really know the name of the wheels. If I sold them (less than 700 miles on them) I'd probably want $1200.00 for the wheels and tires, since that is what people seem to be getting. I'll be getting the car shipped to me in about 10 days and I could let you have first right of refusal if I decide to sell them. You can pm me with your personal contact information.

Drsms22 - I dont know what you're experience is with black wheels but I put flat black Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2's on my car in December and even black wheels show brake dust. I thought that I might be able to be more lazy with my wheels now that I have black wheels but I was sadly mistaken. After about two weeks of driving my wheels turn this ugly brown color which is basically globs of brake dust. If you're really concerned with brake dust with switch out your factory brakes to an aftermarket company with less dust or maybe look at anthracite wheels. That color seems to match the color of brake dust better than straight up black. I know Mini makes the R90's (BBS lookalike) in anthracite and also several makes on the outside. Just a thought from a black wheel guy. Hope it helps.
