We have the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S on the BMW and the Michelin Pilot Exalto Pe2's on the Mini. Both fantastic tires and the A/S's are quiet, very good in the rain and handle darn good too and long lasting. The Pe2's are a bit stickier and will not last as long. You would not go wrong with either one.

Feedback seems to favor the tire for other-than-MINIs. I may put them on my wife's Grand Marquis, but it appears I need to look to some of the other suggestions on this thread. Appreciate the responses.

TireRack gives the Exalto a pretty good set of ratings. Unless I hear something from this assemblage to dissuade, these are at the top of the list.

And it looks like the 185s are the right size. I think that size is supposed to bring the speedometer closer to being accurate, also.

Exalto AS = great set for Mini
Primacy MXV4 = great set of Grand Marquis

I am involved in our tire testing personally, Just letting my in car experince help you make an educated choice.

For Alex @ Tirerack - so I'm a novice on tire sizes. If I want the Michelin Exalto A/S, they don't come in my OEM 195/55/R16 size. They come in 195/50/R16 (84V) or 205/55/R16 (91H) - but I don't know what the affect on handling/driveability/gas mileage, etc is by changing either width or aspect ration - can you enlighten me? This is just for normal around town/highway commute driving.

For the Michelin Exalto A/S
205/55-16 is the better size of the two given choices and is usable with a stock suspension. Tire diameter is 24.9" vs stock 24.3".

For a lowered suspension usually look for 205/50-16 first which is slightly less than stock tire diameter. Tire diameter 24.1".

195/50-16 is much smaller than stock tire diameter and while it has enough load rating it is going to give a little odometer and speedometer error.
Tire diameter is 23.6". This would increase wheel gap using stock suspension and lower the clearance height from the ground- can lead to more scraping over uneven roads, curbs or speed bumps during daily use.

i had pilot exalto a/s on a MB c230 and loved them. from those i went to the pilot sport a/s and they were better. much more firm but still had the great michelin feel.

after runflat die (which will be a while cycling with blizzaks) i will probably go with the sports if they come in the mini size

alex....question for you
Can you put a 215 45 17 on the wheels that a 205 45 17 is on now? i thought i read someone saying that was possible. i'd like more rubber on the ground if possible...or better yet what's the max width and height that is possible
