We get mostly ice storms here, and when that happens, NOBODY goes out. When it DOES snow, we get the sloppy crap that you do, too. I'm not sure there is ANY all season tire that does a good job in that stuff.
My first Mini was a classic that I drove to school everyday in northeastern Ohio. It had 10" wheels, and I NEVER used snow tires..and never got stuck, either. The Mini/MINI is a great snow car with the front wheel drive, as long as the driver does so responsibly.

I'm in the 'caster (Lancaster, that is) and commute down to the Athens-area. We don't get the frequency of snowbelt-style snow, but when it snows down here in the Hocking Hills it really snows.
I have a nearly-new set of Michelin X-Ice in a 15", so if it really starts suckin' I'll get some steelies and mount 'em.
