I was not sure if to put this question in Detailing or this one. I did searches and came up empty.

I have rust on my brakes and I can't get it off (surprise surprise). Can anyone recommend a way to get it off or am I stuck with it?

On the brake rotors or calipers?

For rust on the rotors, drive the car and use the brakes. For rust on the calipers, paint them.

Do you mean on the surface of the rotors?? Doesn't it come off when you drive the car (and presumably use the brakes)?

Or, do you mean the calipers?

Maybe Lolo doesn't use brakes?

99% of all rotors rust. That's just the way it is. Nothing to worry about at all. Now if your calipers are rusting..that's a different story. Get thy MINI to the dealer pronto as they should have a protective paint job on the caliper preventing any rust issues...especially this early in the game.

Heck my 2001 Miata would rust the rotors to the hub if you washed the car and then let it sit. You'd get a definite "clang" as they broke free when you finally moved the car.

Thanks Chitown I try to use the brakes every once in a while.

I went to lunch sorry I took so long to respond. The rust is on the the surface of the rotors. I only have brake dust on the calipers (that will be easily resolved this weekend).
And no it does not come off when I use the brakes. I thought it would, but it didn't and now it's there like a bad smell.

Smells like what? Something burning?

Sorry for all of the questions, but "rust" that won't come off of the rotors and that causes a bad smell is one that I've not heard of (not that that means much ) You haven't gotten some sort of cleaner on the rotors from trying to clean the wheels, have you?

I guess I'd say that you may want to swing by your dealer (hopefully it's not too far) so that they can take a look. If it was just the rust, eh..who cares?, but the smell is really weird.

Jsun,
I apologize I was trying to be funny and you took it the wrong way (shame on me). When I say it's there like "a bad smell" I mean the rust just won't go away.

In my attempt to add humor to my problem you made me laugh.

Thanks for your concern either way.

Powerslot rotor

G2 caliper paint

Poweslot uses a Cadmuim plating to elimnate rusting everywhere, except the firepath (where the pad touches) G2 caliper paint can make those dingy dirty calipers look brand new!
