BMW CSL wheels for MINI GB (again)
Hello All,
I know that this has been discussed before, and apparently to no success. I've contacted Velocity Motoring again to inquire about wheels for the MINI. I have an R56, so I'm looking to organize a group buy for the following-
(4) wheels. 18" x 8.5"
Velocity told me that they would be willing to do custom bolt patterns for an order of 40 wheels (10 sets).
From the previous thread, I thought that I had seen at least 10 people interested. I wouldnt take the payment, everyone would pay Velocity on their own (so everyone knows I'm not skimming anything).
I'd just like to get these wheels on my mini with some help from the NAM community.
Please PM or respond if you are interested. If the interest is there, I'll let Velocity know and we'll start compiling a list.
Thanks!

18s huh? Hmmm, so are there specs as far as weight? Price? I MAY be interested, problem is, have never seen 18" CSL-style wheel on a MINI. THe one picture that was thrown around on the other thread was ok, but it didn't do much for me. Maybe because it was a 17" wheel??? I would like to see photos if possible.

I found a pic of this from the previous thread.
I havent seen anyone firmly commit to doing so... so far, I'm the only one.
18 x 8.5" will fit with a 40 offset, but we can get whatever width/offset/size we want with the group buy. If we get 10 people, I was thinking that we'd get a group email together, anyone in SoCal area would all meet up at Velocity Motoring, and get this measured correctly and ordered with a consensus.
I think we could get a consensus now for 18", I'm open to the width and offset if we get 10 people together
So far looks like we have 4 people. Come on guys, (4) 18" wheels for $699 is a great deal.

The only other issue is the weight - what do they weigh ?
Are they these -http://www.velocitymotoring.com/links/wheels-vb3.htm
If so 18x8.5 is 23.5lbs - I feel that this is too big and too heavy - see if you can get 18x7.5's

There is no way it will work unless you are running stock height, and even then it will rub like crazy.
at et 35, a 7 inch wheel is RIGHT at the edge of the fender. Any further and the wheel begins to poke out past the fender. The 18x8.5" with offset of 40 will poke out past that by 14mm. Now team that up with the massive size of an 18 inch wheel and you have nothing but rubbing.
18x8.5 will not work at offset of 40. Sorry. I also don't think you can go higher on the offset, it will begin to hit your struts or coilovers on the inside.

Most certainly, that size has been done well. You just need to run 205/40's to ensure no rubbing. It looks great.....you could fit 17x8's with the right offset as well. But 18s and the wider width just doesn't work out together.

Oo...or go 7.5 up front and 8 out back...

Just out of curiosity, these are replicas we are talking about here right? If so, do we have any pictures of the actual set of 4 rims for $699. Not all replicas do a great job at replicating.
EDIT: Nevermind I just checked Velocity's site. The wheels look legit.

18" x 8.5" will not fit. Sorry, you guys are right.
I was looking at a different wheel (in case this doesnt work out), that goes 18 x 8.0 w/ 42 offset.
I wanted to get the most width I could, becuase that will help get the "concave" look. with the 8.5, it would be the front wheels of an M3. I like the rear wheel-look, but those are 9.5s
I felt the 17s would make the wheels lose its spoke "length" look.
As far as being legit, I think most of the BMW community who wanted CSL replicas, have purchased from these guys..
so, can we get a roll call of how many are committed?

I don't really dig the stretch unless the wheel is atleast 8 inches wide.
