Lower weight 'S' lites

I was told that there is another 'S' lite wheel that is about 4-5 pounds lighter than the 'S' lite heavies. These are OEM wheels, supposedly there are some minor differences on this wheel. Anyone know about this and what the differences are?

The newer MINIs can come with Crown spoke wheels that may resemble the S-lytes.

R104 Crown-spoke ET48 22.7lb (10.3kg) [silver or white finish]

R85 S-spoke (S-lyte) ET48 25.1lb (11.4kg) [silver or white]

yup. that's the one. i was about to say just that. but i like the r85's better.
but if you wanna go with light. might as well go with aftermarket and save yourself pretty much 10lbs instead.

No, I also recall someone mentioning recently that the 2005/2006 S-Lites were a couple pounds lighter than the '02-'04s. That the rear of the spokes had been hollowed out slightly, and that they had a different manufacturing number somewhere on them. ??? Can anyone confirm this? Just wishful thinking?

That is one one the things I heard, but I think there was one other thing they did to lighten the wheel. Anyone else out there know about this?

Two different castings for the S-lyte but the weight was the same.

All of the Promo Lit and ads that I collected from 2002 to 2003 when I finally bought MSC said that S-Lites were 17x7.5. But just yesterday I argued with Alex of Tire Rack that my wheels are 17x7.5 NOT 17x7. And now this, so I did verify my old MINI promo lit and it does say 17x7.5 and so does the 2003 accessories catolog. Keep in mind, this lit is from 2002 and 2003. I also checked 2005 lit and it says S-Lites are 17x7???WTF!!!! Also, at AMVIV I was checking out how 215/40-17 Falkens would look on MC40 wheels which I knew were 17x7 they did look "donuty" but I ran across S-Lites that also looked "donuty" I compared them to mine and mine seemed to fill out more??
But I don't know whats going on.

S-lytes and other stock MINI 17" wheels have always been 17x7" no matter what the literature says.

I've seen the other sizes but they are in error.

I noticed that, too. The old lit always said 7.5 for the S-lites.

That's probably just the differences in how different tires fit the same wheel. The sizes aren't exact, so some will be wider or narrower than others.
