Show me your WHEELS!

Just got my gunmetal Trak Lites. They look pretty cool, but no pictures til spring though. No point in putting them on in the dead of winter. Sigh... stuff like this reminds me of how much things suck around here at this time of year.

I am looking for a sweet 17" wheel.
Be sure to tell us what kind of wheels they are.
Has anyone put 18" wheels on & used lowered springs?

I currently live and work in Germany so I paid in Euros for my wheels
(Euro 400.00) for the complete set included mounting and balancing.

My assumption, again perhaps naive, is that you have to run into something pretty bad to mess up a 17 with 40 or 45 series tires (or at least so I'm hoping) in which case I suppose I'd rather bend than break. We'll see I guess. If they turn out to be a nightmare, I'll report back on it.

ive had 3 wheels so far, and none have bent... but i pray my new summers wont bend like ive heard so many people tell me they have

As an example, for the 205/45-17s on the "S", the sidewall thickness is only 45% of 205 mm = 92.25 mm. For comparison, the sidewall thickness of the BMW M3s stock 18" tires (225/48-18 front, 255/40-18 rear) is 101.25 and 102.0 mm respectively; that's a significant difference. The M3 optional 225/40-19 and 255/35-19 tires have the same sidewall thickness as the MINI's 205/45-17 !!
If you switch to JCW 18" rims with stock 205/40-18s, your sidewall is a rubber band-like, bone-jarring 82 mm in thickness.

agreed on most part, however M3 is heavier than the MCS, which should be taken into consideration when any assuptions made based on mathematical calculations, in this case your theory is a lttle off. Is it harsh on 205/40/18s, absolutely, especially with the RFs, but your statement below is not completely true.

Also...
2006 BMW M3 Coupe
Curb weight = 3415 lbs
2006 Mini Cooper S
Curb weight = 2679 lbs
An MCS is 21% lighter. I think a 10% shorter sidewall sounds reasonable.
