Just got my gunmetal Trak Lites. They look pretty cool, but no pictures til spring though. No point in putting them on in the dead of winter. Sigh... stuff like this reminds me of how much things suck around here at this time of year.

i read in the local toronto prelude club someone bent their traklites after 3 months.... so i'd be very careful with them! but yeah they do look VERY hot!

Be sure to tell us what kind of wheels they are.
Has anyone put 18" wheels on & used lowered springs?
Here you go. . . . I'm running 17x7.5 Ronal RT wheels on my 2006 Space Blue, MCS JCW. . .
I currently live and work in Germany so I paid in Euros for my wheels
(Euro 400.00) for the complete set included mounting and balancing.

Hmmm... well maybe I'm naive, but having dealt with 19" wheels with 30 series tires and having 18"s with 35 series tires on the 996, while I've bent the 19's and never even noticed it happened til after the fact, I've never had an issue with the 18s. My assumption, again perhaps naive, is that you have to run into something pretty bad to mess up a 17 with 40 or 45 series tires (or at least so I'm hoping) in which case I suppose I'd rather bend than break. We'll see I guess. If they turn out to be a nightmare, I'll report back on it.

Pheww.... was a little worried there for a bit. Yep, now that you mention it (again... have to learn to read better ) theres is a reason I hate getting to and from Tremblant or Mosport. As bad as the roads are around here, up there, I suspect you could bend Holeys if you weren't paying attention. Not to knock our friends to the north, but some of those roads...

thank the salt they throw onto the road at almost EVERY single day they have a chance! and blame our stupid people who just patches up roads instead of re-pave!

Because you're often limited with the width of the tires you can run on the MINI (depending on your wheel offset and suspension set-up), the effective sidewall thickness can be much less than you think, leaving you very vulnerable to potholes etc.

As an example, for the 205/45-17s on the "S", the sidewall thickness is only 45% of 205 mm = 92.25 mm. For comparison, the sidewall thickness of the BMW M3s stock 18" tires (225/48-18 front, 255/40-18 rear) is 101.25 and 102.0 mm respectively; that's a significant difference. The M3 optional 225/40-19 and 255/35-19 tires have the same sidewall thickness as the MINI's 205/45-17 !!

If you switch to JCW 18" rims with stock 205/40-18s, your sidewall is a rubber band-like, bone-jarring 82 mm in thickness.

agreed on most part, however M3 is heavier than the MCS, which should be taken into consideration when any assuptions made based on mathematical calculations, in this case your theory is a lttle off. Is it harsh on 205/40/18s, absolutely, especially with the RFs, but your statement below is not completely true.

OK, granted, the bone-jarring statement is a sweeping generalization but the rubber band-like sidewall thickness is spot on

My non-runflat 205/40-18s are significantly less bone jarring than my stock 205/45-17 runflats. In fact, I would describe the ride as "buttery smooth" in comparison.

Also...

2006 BMW M3 Coupe
Curb weight = 3415 lbs

2006 Mini Cooper S
Curb weight = 2679 lbs

An MCS is 21% lighter. I think a 10% shorter sidewall sounds reasonable.

Advan rg-II 17x7.5 something like $2000 for all four, and they fit over the brembos with no spacers!!
