Is there a way to solve tires rubbing issues?

Hi All,

Just put 17x7 Ultraleggera offset 37mm with 215/45/R17 GoodYear F1 tires on my 04 ONE (CVT) running stock suspension/spring/etc. It looks great! But I occasionally get rubbing at the back while driving alone without load on a uneven road (up down up down - ie: flat road suddenly down) ard >70km/h (not speeding)

1. Does the tires rubbing only happen at the back only? Will this rubbing will harm anything? ie: tires explode?

2. Finally, is there a way to solve this beside changing RIMS/tires or the wheel arch?

- Will a coilover with proper height setup will solve this issues - which brand of coilover?

- Will a spring with proper height will solve this issues - which brand of spring?

Thank you very much

dremel the part of the fender liner that's rubbing. should only be in the
back with your setup.

not sure about tires exploding but just make sure you got Hydro on
the paint and everything should be good.

If you're rubbing on stock suspension....get coilovers or springs is only gonna mean you rub more often.

Your best bet is to trim the arches as kenchan mentioned. The next best bet would be to get smaller tires.

I had that exact wheel and tire combination with a stock suspension 05 MCS earlier this year. It rubbed a bit until the inside rear fender wells were trimmed back.

When the F1s wore out I swapped to Goodrich G-Force Sports in the same size on the OZ rims. G-Forces rubbed a lot worse and even with more fender trimmng they were rubbing on the uphills at NHIS and Lime Rock.

I'm now running Kuhmo MXs in lower profile 205-45/17 on the track with the OZ rims and no rubbing.

Oddly enough putting the G-Force 215s on the stock S-Lites there is also no rubbing at all.

Lesson 1: Offset must be slightly different for the S-Lites and OZs
Lesson 2: Tires of the "same size" from different manufactures will differ slightly.
