no they are not. that was wat i was running before and the road noise
was about as horrible as S03's starting from about 25%. by 50% it was
very loud.

try the HTR+'s. these are very quiet and grip about as good as or better
than most 'decent' summer tires (like SP9000's, ES100's, Spec2's, etc).

 

This is driving me crazy. I've been pouring over the data at TireRack.com. The Pirelli PZero Nero M&S looks good, but I've found two tests of it on the Tire Rack and they have different ratings. One is 7.35 and the other is 7.10. Then there are the old tests from circa. 2002. Their numbes seem to be higher than more recent tests.

 

so bacially just go with the sumitomo HTR+'s.

 

Let me put in a plug for the General Exclaim UHP mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I bought 205/50/16's for my MCS based on the Exclaim's no. 1 rating in Tire Rack's Users Survey. While undoubtedly not the ultimate performing tire in any category, as Mini Hune notes, for $63 the Exclaim offers a combination of good handling (exceptional in the wet), ride comfort, tread wear and light weight which is very hard to beat. To my ear the Exclaim is a quiet tire, certainly much quieter tha the OEM runflats. The only time I am aware of significant tire noise is when running on concrete roadways, but I don't believe a tire exists which does not whine on concrete. I think the reason the Exclaim scores so highly with users on Tire Rack's survey is that it provides a high value-for-money package which does many things well. Not the absolute best in any respect, but nonetheless quite a deal. I'm pleased with them.

 

I just ordered a set of Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 205/55ZR16.
According to TireRack.com: O.D. 24.9" Rev. per mile 836. Noise test rating 7.35. Handling test rating 7.57.

In comparison, the noise rating for General Exclaim UHP is 6.41 (higher is better) and handling 6.61.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 noise 6.41, and handling 7.45.

These numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt because the tests may have been done with different model cars.

I have next to no fait in the survey numbers as the owner of a Lincoln may have a different impression of noise and handling than a WRX owner.

 

Give us a report of how it fits and what you think of it.

The PZero Nero M&S is a good tire. Should be fine.

 

I am about to try out the Bridgestojne Serenity's Robin. Everything I can find says they are about the quietest tire around right now.

 

Yes, they have a better noise test rating that the Pirellis, but they give up a fair amount in handling and braking. Let me know how you like them. I should have the Pirellis by Tuesday.

 

I'd like to hear about the Pirellis as well. I had considered them too. Long term wear and noise is what I really want to hear about.

I am going to use mine for traveling and keep the runflats for local wear and tear.

 

There is no "perfect tire" or there wouldn't be much of a discussion about what to get.

are worth a look.
Handling good in both wet and dry. Strong in ride and noise comfort.

I've got about 15K miles on a set of Avon Tech M500's in 215/50-16. Still happy with them. Quiet, good rain performance. Ordered them through Tire Rack.

 

I agree minihune. There is no perfect tire. My only concern about Michelin is every Michelin tire I have ever owned got incredibly noisy about 1/4 through its expected life.

Of course the last set of Bridgestones I owned (20+ years ago) were garbage. So, I have no feel at all for where Bridgestone is at these days.

For me, I am willing to sacrifice some performance for a little less noise. I do not push the envelope at all when driving Romi. She is an easy cruiser and we like to take her on long trips.

 

The Serenity and MXV4 were tested on a 2006 BMW E90 325i Sedan. The P-Zero Nero on a 2003 BMW 330Ci. I wonder how much difference that makes in these numbers?

The difference in braking was one of the reasons I went for the P-Zero Nero M+S (P-Nothing Black S&M ). Another factor was the overall handling rating in the tests (higher is better):

Also, the MXC4 would be $76 more for a set of four.

 

The cars do make a difference.

Would the 330Ci handle better overall than the 325i sedan thus helping test the PZero Nero M&S for handling and or helping the score for braking distance?

Opposite for the 325i being better for overall comfort favoring the Touring tires for road and noise comfort?

Always best to have the same car, same drivers, same course, same tests and methods.

It's hard to control everything.

They should just make all the test cars MINIs.

The 330Ci is closer to our MINIs than the 325i.

It would be interesting to hear about the feedback from using the Serenity on a MINI for street use.

I can tell you that my stock Continental All Season 15" tires work just fine for daily street use but they don't have the handling of an Ultra High Performance tire. Doesn't mean they aren't good otherwise for very cheap.

 

As soon as the Serenities are mounted, and I put some miles on them, I will let you know how they are.

 

I've got the Goodyear F1GSD3's on my 02 MC and so far, (3000 miles) they are the quietest tires I've run. They beat the AVS 100's, and the KDW's for noise hands down, although they don't perform quite as well as the Bridgestone Potenza S 03 Pole Positions that are on my 02 MCS. Hope this helps.

 

Hope you don't plan on changing your fuel filter anytime soon, that'll be fun .

Got the Pirelli P-Zero Nero 205/55-16 mounted on the Rota RBs and have put a few miles on them. They are much quieter than the Michelin Pilot Exhalto PE2 205/45-17 on Centerline RPMs. However, my seatometer reports that handling is better with the 17". So, a set for canyon carving and a set for comfort. So far so good. I'll know more when I've put more miles on them.
