Experiences with Pirelli PZero Nero M&S?

If you've used Pirelli PZero Nero M&S tires on your MINI, I'd like to hear your impressions.

Were they quiet? Did they stay quiet for the full tread life?

Did they have much trammeling?

How was the handling?

I'm looking at 205/55-16. What size were you using?

Thanks,

From another thread a while back, I posted:

"I've currently got the Sport Maxxes (205/45-17) and I like 'em! Grippy and pretty quiet (to me anyway). I've worn out the fronts in about 15,000 or so miles - they haven't been rotated and I drive fairly agressively - but the rears are almost like new, and I've got a pair of new ones in the garage waiting to go on the car.

I previously had the Pirellis on my car (205/50-16) and they were pretty good. They rode quietly and comfortably. They could be slid pretty easily in corners, but they were also VERY predictable and fairly quiet in doing so. They never just suddenly broke away. Once you got used to their traction characteristics, they were kinda fun."

I bought the tires used with the wheels they were on, so I didn't get the new tire experience with them - couldn't tell you what they're like when new. As far as I recall, they were fairly quiet, although I think they got a little noisier when they started to get really worn down. The ride was great, but again deteriorated a bit when they were worn. I could get them to slip a bit in the corners pretty easily, but they would just slip a bit and then hang on. VERY predictable tires in the corners. hahaha! I just re-read my previous comments, and I've said basically the same things again.

My grandparents have these tires and they are great for the STS and the amount of driving they do. If you have any questions, PM me!

I used the 215/45-17. Thought they were a great tire. I'm very hard on tires/car and manage about 12000 miles on these tires.

Were they quiet? Did they stay quiet, or get noisy as they wore down?

Thanks,

It's my impression that "tire noise" is pretty subjective, and likely almost impossible to pass along accurate info, as one person's "quiet" tires will seem really "noisy" to someone else. And how many people really get to drive the same car with multiple tires traded out in a small time frame to where they could actually make a good call as to which ones were louder or quiter than the others?

Shrug, it's somewhat subjective, yup...

How about driving 8 similar MINI's with different tires back-to-back during an install event @ TSW? That's when I noticed how obnoxious the Nero's were. When compared to other tires (Kumho SPT's, BFG G-Force, BFG KDW2's, Falken RT-615's, Falken Ziex, Toyo T1-S, Yoko S-Drives, Goodyear GS-D3's), I just thought they were loud. Several other local people haven't been happy with the noise level of the Nero, but YMMV and it's just my $0.02!

On my Cooper, running my street wheel/tires - RS-2's got loud when worn down about halfway, ES100's also got loud when worn down about halfway... BFG G-Force Sports stayed quiet the whole time. I've got a set of Toyo T1-R's sitting here, ready to go on next. To date, this will be the 6th set of street tires on the Cooper.

I have a set of Pirelli PZero Nero M&S in a 215/35/18. They have around 8,000 miles on them and although not the size your looking at, they have been quite and very responsive in the corners although they do trammel on the grooved freeways here in S.D which really bothers me. I also have a set of 16" wheels which I use when I travel in the twistys. I bought a set of "Nitto Neo Gens" M&S (205/50/16) and really love these tires. They grip like mad and don't trammel at all because of there tread pattern and are very quite. I will say they have been good tires so far and I can see getting a lot of miles out of them.

Ah! That's the kind of situation you need to gauge tire differences. Definitely lends merit to your observations.

I've been happy with my P Zeros. 215 35 18, BTW.

From a performace/ use evaluation, moreso than the Toyo Proxes 4s on my other MINI. From an economic one, not as much.

The Pirellis were a bit more supple in the beginning and held up well to occasional track days. They have become loud as they wore (negative camber in the rear, coned them as you would expect) down.

I'm about ready to replace them after 23,000 spirited miles.

Dollar for dollar though, the Proxes were a better "deal" IMO. Considerably cheaper.

Yes. Much quieter than the Goodyear runflats.

Yup.

None

How was the handling?
Fine. Clearly not a racing tire and I have not had Artoo on the track but they work nicely during spirited driving. <G>

215/45-17 on Stock S-Lites. They have about 35,000 on them and are not yet at the wear indicators. I'd get them again although I am looking at the Michelin Primacy as those I can get at Costco.

I guess your lucky that your's don't trammel. Mine send my car all over the road on our Cali grooved freeways.

I had them on my 04 Cooper and thought they were excellent. Like them enough to put them on wife's A-6 when OEM tires wore out. Had 37 miles on them when I trade the car. Fronts looked pretty good rears as new. Thye wore very well. A bit noisy as the miles added up. Handling was very good. The 07 MCS has Bridgestone RE 960as mounted and I think they are better in the dry. Have not had enough bad weather to comment on their all season capability. Very quiet but they only have 2300 miles on them.

Well, I have PZero Rosso's on my Toaureg (I know it's not the same as the Mini) and they grip great. I love the tire in dry conditions but they totally suck in wet conditions and are like a death sentence in snow. They wear out super fast (20K miles) but I have 35K on mine right now......just info...

The Rossos seem to be a different animal than the Nero's. The Rosso's have a tread wear rating of 220 while the Nero's are 400. The Rosso numbers also show better handling.

acccording to Jim at Tire Rack the Bridgestone is currnetly their best handling all season tire ( also taking into account maintaining that handling over the life of tire) Yokohamas tested a bit better in the dry in their testing.
