Recommended 205/50-16 tire, replacing my runflats

I am considering replacing all 4 of my 195/55R-16 Dunlop runflats on my 2005 MCS with non-run flats. Question... should I let my Mini dealer do the install and sensor hookup or go to an after-market tire store in which case will they able to address the sensor issue? If I decide I really don't need the tire sensor with the new tires is that ok?

Finally, I need some recommendations for a good 205/50-16 non-runflat. I live in Northern Virginia (DC Area). I understand that is the recommended replacement size correct or at least the most popular correct? Thanks.

No sensor issue on a 2005 MCS.
Do you want summer tires (with a winter or all season backup set for the
few cold months of the year) or all-seasons?
I had Bridgestone Pole Position S-03s initially in 205/50/16, and now that
they've worn down have switched to Dunlop SportMaxxs.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s are great summer tires as well.
Consider the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S if you want all seasons.

205/50-16 is OK.

Two approaches.

Dedicated winter tires and summer (three season tires) tires- requires two sets of rims. One set can be even 16".

All Season tires for year round use if your snow is not that bad. What do you do now?

So first thing is to determine one set of wheels or two.

Then decide if two sets of wheels what will they be? 16" for both or change to another size. 15x7 or 17x7 will also work even with JCW front brakes but you just need clearance for the brake calipers. If you have standard brakes then you can use nearly any rim. If you have plans to upgrade brakes then stick to 17" or 16" rims.

After you decide that then we can discuss tires but search for 205/50-16 and you will find about a dozen other threads that discuss the same options.

Thanks. I want to stick to 16 in. tires (with existing rims) and do not anticipate any further upgrades. All season tires are what I need.

Sounds like the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S may be a good choice. Looks like the going internet rate is $160 per tire. Would it be better for me to purchase them separately and let the Mini dealer put them on? Or let the dealer order (if he doesn't stock) and install?

If you purchase from Alex@tirerack.com you can get referral to different tire install shops in your area to remove the runflats and install the non runflats. If you buy new rims you can reduce weight of the rims and they come mounted and balanced with the new tires but you pay for more shipping- not bad for ground.

If you like your MINI rims then just keep them stock- or you can also sell them to another MINI owner- some want dedicated snow tires or some track wheels.

Usually the dealer will charge too much to remove and install tires and any good tire shop can do that well enough. No need to ship tires to the dealership. If you work with a tire shop that tirerack recommends you can ship to the tire shop and then bring in your car. You'll also pay to dispose of the used runflats unless you have lots of tread and want to sell them to another owner.

Many many thank Minihune. I am going to contact Alex. I am leaning towards the Pirelli or the Kumho all season.
