Rubber valve stems with TPMS

If have a 2007 MCS with Rubber valve stems which come with the old TPMS, I currently have the R97 Flame Spoke wheels. I want to switch to the OZ Ultraleggeras in 17 inchs. From what I have read here if I keep my original tires (205/45/17 RFTs) I will not have rubbing issues even if the offset is Et37 instead of the original Et48.

My question is will I be able to change the TPMS to the new wheels? Any of you guys with Ultraleggaras done it? Thanks

Those wheels have NO sensor in them. The car just watches the speed of each wheel and compares it to the others. So you can use ANY stock or aftermarket wheel, with or without the sensors inside, and the passive system will still work fine.

Valve stems have always been available in both rubber and metal, so a metal valve stem is not a guarantee that you have a pressure sensor inside your wheel. On the other hand, the sensors can ONLY be used with a special metal valve stem, so if you have rubber valve stems, you don't have the sensors.

The ACTIVE TPMS uses the sensors pictured above, and requires the sensors be in each wheel that's on the car. This system became standard on the MINI starting some time...late this past summer, I think? If you have the active system, you will have to have sensors in any set of wheels used on the car, or it the car will complain.

Looks like you have the passive system.

OT: It's really annoying that MINI does these mid-model changes - makes everything a big guessing game.:impatient

Eric is right, but what that means is that you can put on ANY wheel and tire, and they'll be fine as far as the car is concerned. The older system has NO sensor in the wheel. So you don't have to worry about it. Just make sure all four wheels and tires are the same size.

Thanks to all for your input and comments. I have just put the Ultraleggeras on my car and love them. I didn´t have any rubbing issues as expected, even went for a quick test drive over speed bumps with to heavy guys siting in the back. I just love them.

Thanks

Go to your car, get down on your knees, and look whether the valve stem is rubber or metal. If it's rubber, then you have the rubber one; if it's metal, then you have the metal one.

Check the production date of your 07 as it was a mid-year change. It's a quick call to your dealer.
