Team Dynamic VS OZ Ultraleggera

wheel weights arent a matter at that size. i think theyre comparable in weight for the TD Pro Race 1.2 vs the OZ u-leggeras
both companies are used by race teams all over the world. both well made wheels.
i'd choose based on availability and price. same difference really
also noticed you have an 07. do you have the new TPMS? that'd be deciding factor also, make sure they can fit the new TPMS

Could be wrong, but I don't think either of these are forged, though they are reasonably light I think there is a pricier "Forgiata" version of the OZ to be had. IMO the TD wheels are more business-like in appearance to the OZ ULs, which are a bit over-styled and too angular in design for the MINI. The OZ SL was a good MINI wheel, though. I had a set back in the day and now have TDs. Again, just one idiot's opinion.

I have the TD pro race 1's as well, in the 17-inch size, black. I too, love them!
I did look at the OZ's, but I thought the spokes looks a bit beefier/more substantial on the Team Dynamics wheels. They looked stronger. I had seen them on MSFITOY's MINI, and really liked how they looked.
The spokes on the OZ's look thinner; more knife-edged, and I didn't like how they merged with the outside of the rim. That area gets awfully busy, and looks like it creates lots of little places for brake dust to collect!
Zoom into a photo of the Ultraleggera's, and you'll see what I mean...
I don't know about you, but how easy a wheel is to clean is a pretty big factor for me... A wheel with excessive amounts of nooks and crannies means MORE LABOR when you detail your wheels...

I have not seen any more time wasted dealing with my OZ UL's from the Web Spokes I had before, maybe less time each wheel to wash and dry. They sure do hide brake dust nicely between washings.
The OZ rims are quite nice in how they handle other than being a little too loose on takeoff (have to readjust to how lite they are). All in all very good rims IMO.

I really like the OZ Ultraleggera's as well; their weight is unbeatable for the price. However, since I won't be tracking my MINI at all, the design of the TD's won me over. I prefer the gloss black and machined lip they have, over the UL's flat black. Also the TD's are supposed to be tougher and cost significantly less than the UL's.
Really you can't go wrong. Both are beautifully designed, light, quality wheels.

Sorry just had to rant a little bit. My MINI has the new TPMS system and I'm looking to put on aftermarket wheels/tires soon. So it's either gonna be a major pain in my a*s (switching the parts over) or in my wallet ($183 for new sensors and stems from Tire Rack).

I haven't heard of anyone getting wheels the TPMS sensors didn't fit in. Not to say this isn't a valid concern that has been a problem for some, but it doesn't seem to be the most common problem. The issue myself and everyone else I've chatted with has run into is that many wheels have 12mm lug holes and the new MINI R56 has 14mm lugs.

Same thing I was thinking. The new system only showed up around build week 32 or so. Personally I'm starting to think the older system definitely has its advantages. Even with the direct system we don't get actual PSI readouts and you can only see which tire is low if you have the OEM navigation system. Has any research/experimentation shown that the new system even detects a flat any sooner???

As you know I went w/ the OZ's and I bought the sensors through TireRack. The interesting thing is one of the wheels came inflated to 85psi.
When I first found this I assumed my guage wasn't getting the right reading because the tire sensor would surely call this out. But the car had a wicked pull so I suspected something was up and checked w/ another guage that also read high. When I let the air down to 40PSI where it should be, the system told me I had a low tire?????
This really freaked me out since the tire looked fine but I didn't want to drive w/ a flat. What I realized is that the TPMS when you set it assumes the set pressure is correct and only alerts you when there is a drop by a certain percentage from that point. So if you reset at 90psi and drop to 60psi, they will all go off.
Clearly for such a complicated system, it sure is dumb!:impatient Another government mandate at work!

Totally forgot about the government mandate. That has to be the only reason MINI switches system. At first I thought it was cool but it seems we get no added features over the FTM system, it's no more 'sensitive' or what have you and it's a major pain to deal with when it comes time to switch wheels.
My thoughts exactly. It doesn't just sound like it, for me at least, it is. I could totally live with the hassle if it was any better of a system. But thus far it just doesn't seem to offer any improvements at all. Granted it's newer and arguably better technology, but I've yet to see how that transfers over to making it better.

the ultraleggera has a very angular look to it...not flowing and smooth like the TD's. I love the look of a flowing balanced 10 spoke wheel....timeless in design vs. the spoke pairs of the OZ. Prodrive P1 (made by OZ), Prodrive GC010's, Rays Optimise 57 (nine spoke but who's counting), etc.

yup they looked good on his R53, they still look good on his R56. Another MINI guy he runs with has them on his JB/B as well.
