Going from bullets to ultraleggeras

Hey.

By doing this change, it looks like i'll be dropping about 2kg a corner. How significantly will the performance be enhanced? Has anyone done this change and if so can you post your opinions/views?

Thanks

Old logic held that 1lb per corner impacts the car like 10lbs of weight. So 2kg is almost 4.5lb so with all 4 wheels it would be like removing 180lbs of weight.

My guess is you should notice the difference but this is not scientific logic.

Very good info to know, thanks! I knew unsprung weight is greatly magnified over 'sprung' weight, but never heard mention of an actual ratio. Cool

doubtful you'd notice a difference unless you have a standard Cooper

I'd heard of the 10:1 ratio myself too. I've run 16" RPF1s, and i noticed a hell of a difference. How similar will running 17" u-leggeras be?

I just got 17' OZ Ultraleggeras in silver an love them. I was keen to replace my 17' Flame Spoke wheels that came on the car. I was looking for a lighter wheel that also looked better than the standard one that came with the car. I lost 6lbs per wheels so I'm very pleased.

How significant was the difference that you felt? Can you elaborate on the performance increase in detail?

i changed from webspoke 17s to ssr's and the difference was huge and largely unanticipated....eliminated torque steer, but the ride is more sensitive but not bad at all

The car feels slightly quicker offline, just a tad. But what changed more was the handling as the car feels as if it tracks better. Just got them yesterday so I'll give you better input after this weekend.

Thanks, i appreciate it.

Flaco, those rims are 2.3 lbs a corner lighter than the Ultraleggeras, so i'll probably feel less of an effect :( But still, probably still worth it....
