r56 wheel+tire combo

I am looking to put some Motegi Track Traklite wheels with Kumho Ecsta MXs

The traklites have offset of 42mm. My brothers Subaru has the Kumho Ecsta MXs which are 225/45ZR17. They are a very nice tire and we have been very happy with their performance. I have heard that people are putting 235s on their minis with no modifications. My questions is will this tire and wheel combination fit without any modifications or spacers. Just as a reminder when answering, the section width on these tires is 8.9"

thanks for you help

Has anyone tried this combination, or close to this setup?

....i'm looking at those as well....tirerack indicates that anythingover 215/45 on a 17 " wheel is asking for trouble, more so from the engine management system than in the fitment....

can you explain what happens with the engine management. i dont quite understand how larger tires would affect this.

It won't.....it will just throw off your speedo reading.

This will happen only if the outside diameter of the aftermarket setup is way different(+/-) than the stock setup.

which it will be if you step up to 225 without also changing the aspect ratio.

....right.....and the only tire you can get in a 225/40 is a Hoosier slick....which will be hell on a wet off ramp

alright, glad that was cleared up. i knew it would throw the speedo off. that was a no brainer. NoModMini made it sound like your engine would self destruct if you went with that size tire thanks for clarifying everyone

has anyone tried a tire this wide? or would i be the official guinea pig

On the plus side it'll make your speedo read lower than reality, which will counterbalance somewhat the fact that all MINI speedos read higher.

I know of NAM'ers running 235/45 and 225/35, but none with 225/40.
